Holy Family Carnival And A Rat On My Shoulder

I want a rat now!  Shannon’s is so adorable!

Anyway, on Tuesday I went to work at noon and was there till about seven, cuz John let me go then.  I came home and the first thing I did was call Ryan.  I’d talked to him on Monday night and he said he wasn’t sure he’d be able to come cuz his allergies were really bothering him.  Tuesday, I was figuring, ‘great.  He’s gonna skip out on me.  You know, allergies doesn’t even mean he’s actually sick!’

So I called him up and his mom answered, (that was something else I forgot to ask him.  His mom called me Katie when she was telling him who it was.  Why’d she call me Katie?  I didn’t mind, but I haven’t been called that in . . . ever by her.)  When Ryan got on the phone, we said hi, he asked how I was, and I replied with the same.  He said he felt good and I was hopeful.  I asked if he was coming to the carnival with us and he said yeah, no problem.  So we agreed to meet at my house, cuz I still had to call Shannon.  After we hung up, I called Shannon, gave her the plan, and asked if she could bring her Grave Robbers decks, cuz Ryan needs to play that game.

I went up and took a shower and when I got out, Mike and I both enjoyed the air conditioned comfort of my room and I brought out Smiley.  I brought her downstairs at about quarter to eight, cuz Ryan’s never seen her.  We sat outside playing with her for about ten minutes and about ten minutes after I put her back upstairs, Shannon got there.

Holy Family was fun.  I went on the Scrambler, but Ryan was a wimp and insisted that the spinning rides would make him really dizzy and all that, (which included all the rides, by the way,) so I made him come on the super slide with me.  Lol.  That was fun.  I slid so far that my feet hit the fence at the end of the runway thing for it.  Then we played some games, and that one from last year with the pegs and the ball falling through them was there.  The point of it was to catch as many of the four balls as you could.  Two or more and you got a prize.  I’ve still never gotten all four.  One day, though . . .

Then Mike played a game where you had to roll these balls down a runway and they landed in these numbered lanes.  If the total number you got was less than 12 or more than 30, you got a prize.  It’s harder than it sounds, though.  But Mike got it on the first try.  He picked a Brian, (the dog from Family Guy,) doll, and gave it to me.  Then he won the water squirt game and got a Spiderman doll for Shannon.

I won about four or five duckies from that first game I mentioned.  And two monkeys, one of which I gave to Shannon.  I spent my tip money for that day, but it’s okay.

Ryan went home first cuz he had work in the morning and Shannon, Mike, and I left when the carnival was literally closing around us for the night.  We went back to Shannon’s place and watched Alex and Emma.  And from a writer’s standpoint, it’s a pretty good movie.  But from just a purely enjoyment-for-watching aspect, I didn’t like the ending.  I mean, the basis of the movie is this: There’s a writer, named Alex, who borrowed money from these Cuban mafia guys, and the guys are there to collect it.  He assures them that as soon as he finishes this book, they’ll get double their money, just give him thirty days.  So they leave and he hires a stenographer to type up, shorthand, his novel while he dictates it.  That woman is Emma.  And it shows them writing this novel pretty much together, him dictating and her throwing suggestions in it along the way.  As all authors, he uses elements of his life within this book and they show the plot unfolding.

A part of this plot is a love triangle coming about between the main character, (ie- Alex, cuz I can’t remember the novel character’s name,) and these two women.  One is Paulina or something like that, a rich woman who is supposed to be engaged to another man.  Yet Alex is inexplicably drawn to her, love at first sight, if you will.  But he also has a confidante in Anna, a maid at Paulina’s estate.

It’s not hard to figure out that Anna is Emma.  And once she realizes that something Alex put into the novel was representative of the Cuban mafia guys who are after him, she asks if there really is a Paulina.  He tells her no.

And she finds out later that he lied.  She sees him talking to her when she came back with the finished typing.  Obviously, and rightfully, she’s pissed off at him, and she refuses to see him.

He comes up with a clever way to see her, though, and says that the ending of his boo isn;t right and she’s the only one who can tell him if the new ending he has is real.  And he narrates to her that his character realized that Paulina was a fleeting dream, not something real.  But that his love for Anna was something that could span ages, or something like that.  You know, the bit of fluff that’s always in these kind of movies.

Anyway, here’s my problem with that: he lied to her about there being another woman he had feelings for.  Even if those were past feelings, he should have admitted it.  How can she trust him after he would lie to her like that?  Not to mention, he borrowed money from a Cuban mafia type thing.  And this is something safe?!  This is someone you’d want to get involved with?  I mean, seriously.  Like I said, from a writing standpoint, it’s pretty good, though cliche.  Though I also think the other ending for the book was cliche.

Anyway, through practically the entire movie, Shannon’s rat, Skinner, was playing in my hair, or wandering around my shoulders.  He is so cute!  I want a rat now . . .  Honestly, I might see about getting one once Mke and I are in the apartment, but I’m definitely seeing about a macaw first.

Okay, I’m gonna go.  Not much else to say.

I LOVE your Kagome background! Awesome! I love Inuyasha! I have never seen the DVDs at Barnes and Nobles though. Are you talking about the movies or the TV series? I want to finish the series but I only have like… the first 60 episodes. 🙁 I wanna find the rest.
