Strawberry Festival, A Week Early, In October…

Okay, yeah . . . I had this really weird dream last night. I was at my house, and going around, practicing over songs for the Strawberry Festival the next week, and my mom says that I should be ready, because we had to leave for that soon. And I was like, “What? It’s not till next week.” And she says, “No, it was backed up. It’s today.” So, I’m going around panicking, because I knew Joey couldn’t come down that day, so I was trying to find someone else to sing the backup for Bring me to Life, and when I called Denny, he was busy, so I was screwed for that. Then I went to the bathroom, and I heard my parents watching the Oscars, and the Royal Guardsmen were performing the Christmas song of Snoopy Vs the Red Baron. That’s when I woke up cuz I had to pee. Weird, huh? I’ve been having a lot of weird dreams as of late . . .

Okay, this is something that I was recently subjected to: the subject of psychic-ness. Jess was writing about odd dreams of hers that really scared her because they were coming true. Or, at least, elements of the dream happened later on in reality. Frankly, I’ll say straight out–I don’t believe in the whole astral projection thing, or whatever like that. I mean, any case that you hear about, it’s always, ‘well, I heard that this person can do this.’ Even using a close to home example, Dolly wrote in one of her entries about how an aunt (right?) of hers could astrally project herself, and that “there were witnesses.” But she didn’t say that she was one of these witnesses, and don’t bother changing that now, because if you had been one of them, you’d have said so in the entry, Dolly.

Regardless, though, I’m not saying it doesn’t exist, merely that I don’t believe it. If I saw it, on the other hand, that would be a different story. But see, I think that most “psychic experiences” can be explained by logic. Take one example of mine. A year or two ago, Mike and I were going to go to a Halloween Dance at Brookdale College. I didn’t know why, but I just had the bad feeling that ‘now watch; Dan’s here.’ Because that was during the time when I’d have rather sat in a room with Mark David Chapman, rather than him. And I jokingly took my Magic 8 ball off the shelf and asked it if I would have a good time at this party, and it said no. Then I said oh, great, why? was Dan gonna be there? And it said something like “Answer hazy, try again later.” Mike and I went anyway, though, and guess who the first person I saw was? Now, that can just be explained by logic. I don’t know if he was attending that semester, but Dan does go to Brookdale, and it’s only natural to think that he might go to some of the extra things Brookdale has to offer. (The actual circumstances were that he provided a ride for two other people who didn’t attend the school, and just stayed around because he was their ride.)

I think that people can just get odd feelings about things simply because our minds are faster than our consciousness. In the back of our mind, the area that our waking mind is not aware of, we’re able to put things together that our waking mind never could. And there isn’t a clear road between the two. That’s why people get the flashes of insight. They think about a subject often enough, and their minds make these leaps. I do it all the time. And that’s not being psychic, it’s just your mind perceiving something, putting something together, that our conscious mind hasn’t yet. It’s simple intuition, (as I finally get the one word term for everything I ust said in this paragraph,) and while intuition may be a lesser form of being “psychic,” I don’t think it’s truly being psychic.

Not to mention that if there were true psychics out there, who did have and use these powers, then why aren’t we seeing newspaper articles that have “PSYCHIC WINS LOTTERY!! PICKS ALL SIX NUMBERS IN CORRECT ORDER!!” Or something like that? Yeah, some will say, “it doesn’t work that way, you can’t just use it whenever you want.” But then there’s the question of, what about hese palm readers? Apparently, if any of them are to be believed, they CAN use their gift any time they want, and for anything that a person who comes through their door will ask. No, I’ve never had my palm read, but I think it would be interesting to know what someone would say. (Yes, Dolly, I remember when you read my palm, but I consider your ‘prediction’ to be biased, considering you knew what I wanted out of life, and generally who I was at the time.) Anyway, though, back on topic. I think that true psychics wouldn’t be under a restriction of “it doesn’t work that way,” or, “I can’t do this whenever I want to.” If someone actually had this gift, it seems to be they’d be able to hone it, so that maybe it wouldn’t be there one hundred percent of the time, but that they’d certainly be able to, say, name the number of fingers someone is holding behind their back.

All in all, I’ve had my share of small, odd experiences. None of them count as truly “psychic,” I don’t think. Just what I mentioned before about mind connections between the waking mind and the . . . un-awake mind, for lack of a better term. (Un-awake mind. Yeesh . . .) But my point is that while yeah, people have these odd connections, and yeah, some of them are really odd, that doesn’t constitute being psychic.

I guess I’m just a skeptic. But frankly, for anyone who sees this and wants to leave some nasty note telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about, or something of the sort, (because I know there are people like that out there,) don’t bother. Or if you do, at least have the sense to say something other than, “You’re wrong, true psychics do exist, because I am a true psychic because I say so.” Because “because I say so,” doesn’t amount to anything, and it just makes you look foolish. If you have intelligent comments, though, I would like to hear them.

I’d like to believe in those things, but like you, I’m a little skeptical… but I like to believe that dreams are your brains way of interpreting data and ‘hunches’ it has. That’s why I record those I remember, and try and decipher it… usually it amounts to digesting old data, but sometimes it’s relatable to the next day, or even week. Anyways, always looking forward to your entries! 🙂 [Angel Knight]

I only have MSN I do not have AOL IM, unfortuneately *boo* so we cannot IM… DO’H oh well… *sigh* I wish we could though… great now I’m rambling. I’ve been a bit of a wreck, of late… tearing up, having violent memory flashbacks out of nowhere. It’s like I’m in teaching withdrawl or something… It hurts so much… like an icy blade in my heart that paralyzes me. Sorry, well see you around! [Angel Knight]
