Pretty In Pink-ish

Okay, this is an interesting topic I got myself into. One of her entries was about her opinion that murderers, rapists, etc, should be killed. They shouldn’t be allowed to live, to rot in jail, etc. I say, well, I’ll use the same quote that I did in a note to her. “Pity? It was pity that stayed Bilbo’s hand. Many who live deserve death. Some who die deserve life. Can you give it to them?” Because I believe that in a lot of ways, if we kill a murderer, rapist etc, we’re just as bad as they are. In some ways worse, because we’re doing this with the thorough intent that this person is going to die.

Now, pink-ish brought up another factor, that I didn’t know she was also talking about. She disagrees with what I said because, and this is her example: You’re in a room with ten girls, and a grown man. The grown man knocks you out, and when you come to, you realize that he is raping one of the girls, and you’re only chance to stop him is killing him. Yes, in that case, I would knock the guy senseless. I would try not to kill him, but I’d certainly knock him unconscious with everything I had in me. If there was no choice but to kill him, yes, I’d do it. But this case is killing in self defense. It’s different than the choice of giving the death penalty. Because what I was talking about with “we’re as bad as they are” was in the context that the eprson is caught, and in jail, and we’ve decided to give them the death penalty. In the context of Pink-ish’s situation, that’s killing in self-defense. You do what you have to do to survive. In that case, it literally is the law of the jungle. The strong survive, so you have to be strong, especially when there are others to protect.

Okay, I’ll add more on to this as I get comments. Besides, I have to get off. I’ve been on far too long today already.

–Notes–

The whole scene I made up was to say practically if you don’t get rid of the “bad guy” he will do it again, protecting your self and others in the long run is what I was getting at [Pink-Ish]

But I love it when ppl get heated over discusions! I personally don’t because…well..I am a calm person, but watching people get personal over little debates is really interesting to me… [Pink-Ish]

If you sink to their level, you are no better than they are, I say. The worst punishment is to toil with the guilt of killing a man, raping a helpless victim, abusing children, or destroying lives. Let them know that they have ruined so many lives, and they have to LIVE with their choice. [Angel Knight]

It’s ironic that I’m reading this. My friend and I were just discussing the death penalty for over an hour. I probably shouldn’t get into it again here because that would probably take another hour. [DorkAlert]

I would kill him. The rapist, I mean. Right then and there I would kill him so dead that even his GHOST would be crippled. But, that’s only cuz rape is a real touchy thing for me. Otherwise…I can’t say anymore. I mean, before I was a lot like you, saying that makes you just as bad…But then Bobby came along and if someone were to hurt my child I’d say, yeah, off w/hisorher head! [HyacatDuncan]

Let’s just say then, that I am conflicted. [HyacatDuncan]

Well, I’ve never liked the death penalty. It’s not exactly something you can undo if you got the wrong guy or something. I think that living in a confined cell with nothing is a lot better a punishment, because it forces them to know that they did something really evil. Plus, some people do reform. There’s a movie being made about one person who is literally an entirely different person now that– [Swimming In Circles]
