Not So Awkward
Dolly called earlier today. It was a bit easier talking to her, though we didn’t laugh about things like we would have. I mean, normally, that Oreo story would have had us both nearly on the floor. It did nearly have me on the floor when it happened. The only thing that kept me off said floor is the fact that I was laying on the bed at the time.
I swear, though, Jason has too much fun trying to push me off the bed. And he manages it far too often for my comfort. (My poor butt . . .)
Let’s see . . . I don’t know what to do for a lot of people for Christmas, and that’s bad, considering there’s what? fifteen days till it’s here? I have something for Mike, but I want to do something else, too. Jill, gotten. Lindsay, getting. Joey, getting. Melanie, getting, as long as it’s still there. Shannon, gotten. Jason, gotten, and getting, assuming it’s still there. I honestly dont know who else to shop for. I mean, my family goes without saying. I’ve gotta pick up something for Mike’s dad and grandma. Oh, yeah, Tammy, at work. The Secret Santa thing. I have no idea what to get her!!
And, I’d sorta like to get something for Dolly, but I have no idea what she’d like. I have no idea what books she owns, no idea if she likes Sailor Moon still, no idea about a lot of things!
I honestly don’t get one thing. One of the things that was a major rift between us back then was her choice of not being a Christian. She said, and says, that Wicca just feels right to her. If it does, and that hasn’t changed, then why convert to Catholism? She told me that she wants to because Eric wants her to raise their baby to be Catholic. I say, honestly, he wants him raised as Catholic, then why doesn;t he teach him Catholic ways, and whatnot? I mean, if she says that Wiccan feels right to her, and it’s what she believes, then why convert to something that you don’t believe, just because someone says they want their kid raised that way? Why is she willing to change a literal part of who she is, because Eric wants her to? I mean, I’m surprised she’s not saying that their kid should learn all he can about every religion possible, when he’s old enough to, and make up his own mind.
Sorry if this offends, Dolly, but I remember some of your grudges against Christianity, as it were, and I can’t believe that you would convert for anyone, even your husband or kid, if you didn’t believe in what you were converting to. And you don’t seem to believe in it. Yeah, discipline, fine, but belief? It doesn’t seem like it.
Anyway, that’s my two cents. On the upside, my change jar’s getting full. Yay for spare money.

i totally agree. if wicca was really such an integral part of her, wouldn’t she want to share that with her child, her blood? otherwise it undermines EVERYTHING she ever claimed to have believed in…. people are strange [Raisingirl]
