Do You Want To Know A Secret?

I was thinking earlier today about guys.  About how there are so many different things that girls look at to see if they like them.  I’ve been guilty of the same things throughout my life.  When I had a crush on Ryan, and he gave me a birthday card where he signed it, “Love,” I analyzed it for hours!!  I kept wondering if he wrote it because he liked me back and was just shy, or if he wrote it because he signed all his cards like that, or if he was just being nice.

It turns out that Ryan never had a crush on me.  And after so many years, and different experiences with guys, I’ve found that there is no certain way to tell if a guy likes you.  There are no definite ways to tell.  I mean, I have friends who are guys, whose arms I can rest in, who I can hug, and who a bunch of people would insist I was together with if it weren’t so weird.  Or maybe not so weird . . .  Sigh.  Okay, anyway.

In the case that I should be writing about, the girl was talking to a guy who was saying that it was a big boost when a girl says she likes a guy.  I do agree.  I’ve heard the same thing from other guys.  The other thing was that she wasn;t sure if the guy was talking about her when he said that, or one of the other two girls who were there.  Honestly, my opinion is this: tell the guy that you like him.  If the case is that he likes someone else, then hopefully he’ll be mature enough to let you know, and you can just stay friends.  If he does like you, hopefully, he’ll say something.  I do recommend one thing, though.  If you know that you’ll get nervous, and stutter over words, or things like that, write it in a short note.  But, yeah, be there, and ask him what he thinks.

Liking someone is a complicated thing, and figuring out if someone likes you is even more complicated than that.  I know how high emotions can run, especially in high school, and I know how deeply you can feel for a person that you have a crush on.  They’re all you can think about, everything reminds you of them, you make ridiculous lists of things you have in common . . .

Yeah, I’ve done all that.  I had a crush on Ryan for a long time, and there were a lot of different times when he’d done different things that made me wonder if he liked me.  But it always came to the same result.  He liked me as a friend.  And that was it.
