just a normal update

 So the BIG NEWS is that Ellie (my girlfirend’s cousin, the one who had the open heart sugery, been in the hospital/peds ICU for the past 5 weeks) WENT HOME yesterday!!!

She’d been waiting for her chest tube to stop draining, and two days ago it did, so they waited one more day, and voila!  So excited!  

My girl and I are approaching 6 months (less than 2 weeks), and it’s still fuckin fantastic.  We spent virtually ever night together (I can think of 2 nights in the past month or so where we haven’t stayed together), we’ve started sort of thinking about things in that very couply, one-unit way…  Not "my problems" and "her problems", but "our problems"… very strange.

We’re still both bustin our ass to make the other happy.  FIrstly, for our 6 monthiversary (yeah, i know, barf, but suck it), she bought me a ticket to the retirement banquet for Dan Gable, the best wrestling coach in history.  Obviously she knows i’m a huge wrestling fan.  Super fancy banquet, super big deal, once-in-a-lifetime sorta thing.  

So I responded by…. (pause for backstory)…

My girlfriend is a nurse…

When we were in chicago for her friend’s wedding, she was planning on meeting up with one of her friends (her ex, which weirds me out a smidge, but whatever), to see the Body Worlds exhibit, the one where they take the bodies and make them all plastic-like and display them in a museum.  That was also the weekend ellie had her surgery, and it didn’t go well, so we ended up driving back early, and she didn’t get to go.

so i was walking in to work the other day, and saw that a local museum (science center of iowa) had a traveling version of that same body worlds exhibit.  i was, somehow, able to secretly buy tickets and get her to des moines without blowing the secret.  she totally geeked out for an hour and a half while we were there…  equally memorable 6-month gift. 🙂

we’re just in a good groove…  last night we went downtown and met up with a friend drink on the patio of a bar, today we’re having breakfast from the farmer’s market, wandering around arts fair, seeing x-men, then I have that banquet, then tomorrow we’ve got another of my friends’ b-day parties.  great weekend plan.  🙂

hmm, other news…

started playing racquetball with the guys at work.  which leads to very much soreness.  i’m pretty terrible, but it’s a hell of a lot of fun.  

new car turned a month old two days ago..  still sexy as hell and fun to drive..  now i actually have to start making payments.  not-as-sexy-as-hell.

3 weeks until warrior dash.  it’s a 5k+obstacles+mud+beer awesomeness.  

ummm.  i dont think i have anything else to write about, but it’s fun to write without being ‘Oh woe is me’
