do a little mattress dancin’

So, I get this new student today.  She’s got to weigh at least 200 pounds – and she’s 11 years old!  Now, I’m one of the biggest libertarians you are likely to meet – what you do with your life is your business, however, we’re talking about a child.  A child who will eat as much junk food as you put in front of her.  A child who will sit and watch tv or play video games as long as you let her.  That, is child abuse.

We went mattress shopping Saturday.  I think we spent more time buying a mattress then we did buying our last car.  I haven’t bought a mattress in 10 years, and at that time I was right out of college.   The cheapest mattress was the best mattress.  Now that I can afford to buy for comfort, the decisions are overwhelming.  After a while, they all feel the same.

One of these days I’m going to write more than a hundred words at a time.

What, if anything, is the course of action in cases like that? One of my nieces is the same way. She is eight years old and weight probably 150, at least. It’s ridiculous, but she is obsessed with food. Every five minutes it’s, “When are we eating?” At seven. “I know we’re having dinner at seven, but when are we eating before that?” …What?

I just noticed that I wrote “weight” instead of “weighs”. I hate typos. Re: It’s not even that she’s not an active kid. She is very into sports, but… she’s also very sensitive and she’ll eat so much sometimes that she throws up in her sleep. Her step-mother and I were cleaning out her room and we found a ton of wrappers and popsicle sticks stuffed behind her dresser…

and her bed. There were also snack cake wrappers up on the top shelf of her closet behind everything else. It’s ridiculous. One of my other sisters-in-law suggested she be tested because of how much she talks about food. She always says she’s hungry and the other SIL said there is an actual medical condition where people always feel like they’re starving, no matter how much they eat.

Personally, I think she eats like that for emotional reasons more than anything. Blah. Also, this may sound creepy to you, but I mentioned you to my boyfriend last night. Don’t worry. We were talking about names and I was just telling him about your son and how cool I thought his name was. 🙂

Re: I played the clarinet! I wish I would have kept up with it, even after school, just for the heck of it.
