Not sure what to write honestly… once again the window was up, so decided to write. I’m just not sure what to say! Our trip to John’s (previous entry) was good…we dropped by and picked up Kim. We have an old Super Shuttle, which seats 10, and this is exactly the kind of reason we wanted such a large van in the first place…of course with the price of gas, the stupid thing is killing us money-wise, and we hardly ever go anywhere outside of Elk Grove. The carpet cleaning is going ok, we’re definitely making more money than we were before, but like this week, with all the rain, we haven’t had ANY jobs whatsoever, the rain blew away our signs, so there goes the bulk of our marketing! I spent a lot of time today watching the training DVDs Todd gave us on freight brokering and I’m more than halfway through them. It’s interesting, but I don’t know if it’s the guy’s voice or what, I always want to fall asleep while watching the darn things. I get SO tired. I took a nap today after finishing DVD 2, I think it was. I started on DVD 3 tonight, and I believe I have one more to go after this. I am the only one watching them however. I’m just trying to glean what jobs I can hand off to the kids to make my job easier and make them some money. I suppose if/when we go to the training, I can simply ASK the guy what jobs will be appropriate for them. Anything that makes my job easier should in theory make it so we can have more business. If Becca wants to get up early next year before school starts, she can get on the phone to the East Coast to get loads there. I’ll work the middle of the country, and Shabree and Syd can help when they get home from school (if they want). School and homework should of course be their main focus, but if they learn this business growing up, and want to do it after high school, I think the money would be there for them to make a very good living doing it for themselves after graduation. I don’t know… just dreaming really. I also dream about giving jobs to people around here, and how to make that work. I just don’t want to deal with all the government B.S. that goes along with having employees!
Ok, just finished watching this … video… on the impending collapse of the dollar, only to be "sold" a newsletter at the end. I didn’t buy. How annoying. Ok, I believe the dollar is more than likely going to collapse, everything in me says to start that garden THIS YEAR, get the chickens… not sure how I’m going to get milk, no room for a cow… and no, I’m not being silly here. Anyway, I will see if I can get his "free" stuff somehow else…and I’ve got to go to bed.
Just call anyone that works for you a contractor and 1099 them.

As for gardening and chickens, I totally want to do this. If we end up leaving the Army, we’ll be doing this.,,

How can you legally have your children working for a company without crossing child labor laws? I’m curious about how that works.

That’s crazy! I did not know that. If you do some research (and want to share), I’ll be interested to see what you find out. That’s pretty cool. I mean I know things like family owned restaurants usually have teens working in them before they can legally get a job… but I figured it was more just helping or volunteering, not really working.
