the adopted cat

I don’t know when it started happening. But aparently, a cat decided — in typical cat fashion — that we could be used to its advantage.

Thus it began its manipulation. And Scott had no power to resist. I really don’t mind cats, I suppose. They just don’t do much for me either. But Scott was raised in a cat home. Since I don’t attend dog shows, and he doesn’t have pillows embroidered with clever feline sayings, we figured an inter-pet family would work.

I was wary the first time he fed the cat. I mean, cats just take. Take. Charisma isn’t really part of their repertiore. It’s more about minimal human contact to achieve the necessary reward: food.

But he fed the cat. And, suffice it to say, this cat is the most charming, charismatic cat on earth. I should nickname him Cary Grant. (I think I might.) He crawls under the covers and snuggles. He jumps to meet us at the car door when we drive up. He insists on sitting directly in front of your book if you’re reading, or your laptop if you’re typing. It’s cute.

But he’s still a cat with claws. And I like my living room furniture. It matches. Anyone who has ever been a newlywed could never forget what your first set of matching living room furniture does for you.

So the cat is banned from the furniture. As long as I can hold to my guns.

Found you on the front page. Water (spray) bottles work well. Every time the cat gets on the furniture (or looks like he might), just give him a little squirt. That’s how we did it with our cat, and 2.5 years later she only goes where we allow her (which means not on tables, dressers, etc.) Didn’t know if you knew that or not! Good luck!

Cats are fabulous.I have two, and they fight (by slapping each other on top of the head) over who gets to sleep curled up on my chest when I’m watching TV in bed.It’s not all about food for a lot of cats.

get him a scratching post or squirt him with water whenever he tries to scratch. That’s how we got our cat to quit climbing up on th kitchen counters. Anyway, sounds like a great cat…a lot like our pampered princess. She greets us at the door and sleeps under our covers too. Cats are silly!! Have a great day!

Yea, cats can be as loyal as dogs. I have one who lives at my parents’ house who gets in my lap, lays on whatever I’m reading, and just purrs away. She loves to push her face into mine for kisses, too! Lol. RYN: I had never heard of digital scrapping until now. But I went to that site, and it looks awesome! I’m such a computer geek that it should be perfect for me. Thanks!!

We leave our cat outside. Correction. I do. Wife sneaks him in while I’m at work. However, while neighborhood dogs are disappearing (probably mountain lion or bobcat), our cat seems to do just fine. She’s wild as can be, except she knows that if she meows enough, wife will go baby her. heh.

RYN: I added you 🙂 And do you mean what kind of camera? (I’m slow… hehe). If that’s what you meant, it’s a Canon Powershot S2IS. I love it!! Well worth the money (it was $400).
