procrastination finished: 6 weird things

After nagging myself repeatedly, I am finally writing my “Six weird things” in order to delay working on other (far less pleasant) things I’m also nagging myself about. Thanks for the tag, Alika!

1. I can eat the same things for months — years — on end without getting sick of them. If it’s the right thing. Staples of my existence include saltines, pretzles, and popcorn. Well, they used to be staples. Oh-High-and-Mighty-Fertility-Diet has cruelly cut me off from all three.

2. I am obsessed with lots of Stephen Sondheim music, although he gets risque in a flash of lightning.

3. (This is very hard, Alika. Next time tag me something easy!) After I was born, my parents took me back to their apartment — which, at the time, was in a mortuary. Dad was on call a few days per week to pick up dead bodies, and for his services they received free rent & utilities. I smirk whenever I think of a brand-new Valancy with the just-dead people.

4. I collected marriage books long before I met Scott, and now we’re trying to begin collecting baby things (hopefully NOT) long before we have our first child. In my own defense, we’ve now been TTC for one year. And why not buy the expensive stuff when you can afford it, instead of when you’re trying to save up for/pay back doctor bills?

5. I listen to the cutest radio station of all time. (95.9) It’s a local station out of Manti or somewhere nearby. We can barely pick it up, but Classy’s static is better than any other station coming in clear. Every morning, the DJ announces the birthdays for the day, cuts to commercials (which are just as hysterical as the station itself) and then returns to birthdays again. One name is drawn to win a game of lazer tag, and another is drawn to win a cake from a bakery in Ephraim. And here’s the best part: he always, always, always announces it the exact same way. “Jennifer from Spanish Fork, you take the cake today. But I hear you do that every day.” And then the 14-member-strong high school marching band from Painted Horse, TX serenades the listeners with Happy Birthday.

They play Julio Iglesias, the Carpenters, Big Crosby, Nat King Cole, and Burt Bachurach. It’s the best.

6. I have favorite students. I try hard not to, but I do. I’m working on being better at that. After all, God is no respector of persons.

Sounds cool! I like the mortuary bit. That will be a fun story for your kids one day. Hope that one day comes soon. Anyway, take care doll. Love you much!
