Sneak Peak
Quote of the day:
"If we are ever to enjoy life, now is the time – not tomorrow, nor next year, nor in some future life after we have died. The best preparation for a better life next year is a full, complete, harmonious, joyous life this year. Our beliefs in a rich future life are of little importance unless we coin them into a rich present life. Today should always be our most wonderful day."
~Thomas Drier
Yesterday I rushed out of work to walk in the pouring rain to get to the metro, so that I could meet my fiance on capitol hill. That evening is one I will never forget, and one that brings a smile to my heart every time I think about it. We walked up to the Capitol hill Club to meet with the events coordinator. No, this wasn’t the place Jonathan had fallen inlove with for the reception site, so I wasn’t expecting for us to do anything but tour it, for me a second time, for him the first. When Israel greeted us he gave Jonathan and I the tour leading us upstairs. Jonathans face is always in polker mood and you can never quite tell what he’s thinking in these kind of situations. He is a business man afterall. By the end of the tour when Israel let him on to the fact that the whole place would be ours, all four floors and 9+ rooms, Jonathan began to fold. We went downstairs into Israels office, set our bags down, and then Jonathan said…"would you like to go out into the hall to talk for a moment?" Of course! But about what?… We went upstairs, back into the main dining area, and we talked. he asked about how the rooms would be set-up and what I would want. I told him those decisions didn’t have to be made yet, and we could discuss it later. We shared our thoughts as we held each others hands, and then we went back downstairs. Jonathan pulled out two debit cards, had Israel run them, and then signed the contract. We officially have a reception site! I’m no longer looking, searching, feeling unsatisfied. Like, this is real! We have a real place, and planning can actually fall into place! But that wasn’t the end…
Israel asked "have you had dinner yet? Would you like to taste a little of our food?" But of course! Surely we were going across the hall to the room where someone had just finished having a meeting. We’re just going to see if there’s anything left that we can taste, right? Wrong! Israel leads us upstairs to the dining room. He tells the waiter to get us a table for two, and that he’ll pick up the tab. I had the grilled sirloin while Jonathan had the crabcakes. Delicious? Absolutely! I gave Jonathan half of my steak, and was still full! He had to take a crabcake home because he was full. The lobster bisque was fantabulous. The chocolate cake we shared afterwards? Absolutely wonderful.
We left confident that the right decision had been made, and excited! Here are pics of the place. Just a reminder that these are not my colors, and linens and such will be different:
Ohhhhhh, and yes, it is a republican club, and no, I’m not a republican and I detest giving them money just as much as some of you do, but my God I love this place! The funny part? I’m not apart of the club because I’m holding my event there. I have a membership number and everything lol!
