Ugh.  Can’t sleep.

This weekend went well.  Maybe a little too well since I’m resisting sleep?  Anyways…

This week I customized my phone replacing applications (sucking up memory) with icons to links.  I then customized the links with fancy images from an app (CocoPPa) I found and I like it a lot…

I really do.  I just can’t decide if it’s better.  So I guess functionally it’s about the same.

I may also be bored with the iPhone since something better found it’s way across my desk this weekend.  I can’t talk about it though.  But when I can I’ll talk about it.

Also this weekend Vivien and I took bluebonnet pictures.  And by Vivien and I, I mean that I drove us out to Plano where we met up with my awesome photographer and she did all the leg work.  I hovered over a few shots and took these:

I have to admit I really like these two and I am no where near a pro, or using an actual camera so I’m super excited to see my sneak peeks on Tuesday or Wednesday.

I also am wondering if in other states it’s a big deal to find fields full of your state flower and take bunches of pictures with them each time they come into season?  While the majority of flowers in these shots are poppies…the field was full of bluebonnets and other families, many with their own photographers so this is something we do here. Bluebonnets aren’t very plentiful on the Gulf Coast but I know a few people who drove into the Hill Country and other places to do the same thing each spring so it’s not an uppity Dallas thing.

Afterwards we went to Starbucks…where Vivien impressed me with her straw skills:

She got a kid’s size chocolate milk.  That’s NOT coffee.

Anyways…so the skills thing. For a long time she’s been great with a regular cup (no lid) or a cup with a tight fitting lid and straw-like a sports bottle style I guess.  But a loose straw in a cup was problematic for her as she tilted the cup to drink and spilled all over herself.  But…I think we finally turned a corner as she only spilled a teeny bit at first.  This is nice because I’ve all but abandoned the diaper bag as my purse is giant enough to stash a diaper and some wipes in it for most errands and outings. So not carrying extra cups around isn’t really something I’m doing right now.

I spent the majority of this week since my last entry in close observation of both her language skills and the tantrums/terrible two things. I think language is ok.  She said two new words in sentences: "I need that." in reference to her soother before a nap, sleep at home is the only time she’s using it still and her dentist is ok with that so I am too. Need is the new word. Number 2 was  "I can look pictures" when she wanted to look at a photo album we’ve been looking at a lot lately.  It’s not the clearest pronunciation of course but I figured both out without thinking hard so I think we’re ok.

The tantrums I think I’m just jumping the gun to set an expectation level for when a REAL tantrum occurs.  Apart from her meltdown in the waiting room there’s been very few that weren’t a result of being hungry or tired.  And if we’re at home I typically ignore her until she at least stops screaming.  Which doesn’t take long.  So far I like the book though, it’s a pretty easy concept though so that might be why.

This weekend I found a project for the week.  I think if I can order/buy stuff tomorrow I can finish it before the weekend too. I spotted this on Pinterest…

Clicking through brought me to the Cottage and Vine blog which linked to the original post on Martha Stewart’s website.  The concept is pretty simple though.  It’s a strip of trim finished with a metal measuring tape that has an adhesive stuck to the back.  You see the pic so you get the drift.  But I figured a 6 foot strip of the trim would be pretty cheap (I’m thinking under $20, if not under $10).  I’ve got paint here.  And I found the measuring tape on Amazon for $9.  Plus it’s a Prime item so free shipping.  Although I bet they have it wherever I decide to go for the trim.  So I’m making this. I’ll keep you all posted. 🙂

I’m doing this because I’ve hit a wall with the dollhouse and I’m paralyzed in fear on how to proceed since the instructions aren’t clear enough for me to figure it out.  I’ll have to find a video or something I think. I have a pretty popular dollhouse so it won’t be hard I think.

And finally…..here’s Vivien when Officer came home from Navy this weekend:

She loves that hat.

Also you can see my LOTR cross stitch to the left there.

I totally took down one of our wedding pictures and put that up instead.  Thus proving my point when getting married-don’t bother getting packages with tons of prints.  Get a nice album and albums for your parents/grandparents and then just one or two shots you love.

2 years in and the shot I loved the most is now sitting on my spare bed as I try to figure out where to put it.

I’m going to try sleeping again.

Wish me luck.

Hmm I wonder too if other people have the pictures in flowers like we do? I know there are wildflowers all over the place but I wonder if they are as plentiful as the blue bonnets are in texas. Some year you should check out cedar hill state park for wild flower pics… There is a nice field of them with an old farmhouse in the back on pen farm inside the park. Really lovely!

R.Y.N.: Thanks for your kind words and prayers. Trying to make sense of this tragedy. Paula, Alex’s cousin, works in Wales. She and her sisters and brothers are coming to the funeral. Alex’s other two sisters and their families and Alex are going through such a horrific time! I’m still in shock.
