“What Do I Do For The Moment?”
It’s another lonely day for me
Just another lonely day
Waiting for the phone to ring
Just to hear somebody say, "Hey!"
I don’t wanna spend the night alone
But I know that I’ll have to
Maybe when the new day dawns
I can find someone who will "love me do"
But what do I do for the moment?
When there is no one around
At midnight or two in the morning
Who can I call? No one at all.
Weeks pass by without a word from friends
No word from my family
Wonder why no one comes by
Just to drop in and see me
Wonderin’ what it was that I did wrong
Why everybody stays away
I need help to make it right
But it’s just another lonely day
And what do I do for the moment?
When I am all by myself
On Friday night or Sunday morning
Who can I call? No one at all.
What do I do for the moment?
When there is no one around
At midnight or two in the morning
Who can I call? No one at all.
—-Written when I was in my early twenties, a while before I was married.
This accurately describes the mood I’m in right now. I don’t like myself, and I don’t know what to do about it. Everyone is asleep or unavailable, so what do I do for right now?
