Is it unusual….
Is it unusual that my first reaction to most things is "How would I feel if someone did this to my daughters?"
When I hear about horrible things that some parents say to their children, I cringe, and that hardens my resolve to be the best parent I can possibly be. Laurie and I have different attitudes toward parenting, which can make things odd sometimes, even though our girls are grown and out on their own now.
But seriously….I hear parents say things like, "I can’t wait til you’re grown and move your ass out of my house!" WTF?! Why would you say such a thing to your own child?!!!!!! If you find your own son or daughter to be that unbearable, doesn’t that say something about the manner in which they were raised?
Gotta accept the bad along with the good.

I don’t think that’s weird at all, in fact I imagine that most parents feel that way.

I’m not a parent, so I just figured that I had no experience to think that those kinds of words were unnecessary and even a bit damaging. But it’s nice to know that some parents believe the same thing.

ryn1: I’ve always felt this. That loving a child, is loving a child, no matter what your relationship is to that child. My sisters have always said to me, “you have no idea; you’re not a parent,” which I’ve always found a callous thing to say, especially to their own, childless sister. ryn2: it’s hard to be so close to the flame; he’s my best friend.
