For Elizabeth Louise, also known as Betty Louise

My Mikey, I love you

I have been reading back through some past entries in this diary.  I read parts of Jacky’s and parts of Betty’s chapters.  In reading Betty’s, I realized something about my sister.  She is a loving woman who will fight to defend those she loves.  She is also very insecure.  Many times, she craves some kind of positive reinforcement, and it seems as if the only one who will give it to her is herself.

Here we are, my darling sister, and I will tell you a few important things.

First of all, I want to thank you for being the brave, honest soul that you are.  Without your ferocious defense of family and friends, we would have lost much more in life than we already have.  I know that you will not stand by idly and let someone commit an injustice towards someone you love.  It will not happen, because it is in your nature to be noble and fair.  It is, dear heart.  I know you so well.

Thank you for being such a loving mother.  When no one else seems to give Louis or Oscar what they need, you always seem to know just what to do.  When Tiffany is in trouble, you may fumble for words, but BEING THERE is what counts, and you are there, without fail, EVERY time she needs you.  As for Elisabeth…she is your challenge.  You love her, even when you feel as if she hates her own mother.  You know that she desperately needs both of you, and you are there for her, as well.  There is room for improvement, yet you deserve commendation for your understanding with the teenaged girl.

As a sister, a mother, a wife, and a friend, you are, without a doubt, one of the most loyal people alive.  There are the obvious moments when your temper flares, hence the nickname "Red Hot Mama".  Those are not so important, overall, because everyone who has taken the time and energy to know you…given themselves the HONOR to know and love you…knows that you only fight for those you love.

Thank you for being the beautiful woman you are.  I am so proud to be your sister.

Much love, as always,

Barbara Jean
