Our trip to Fort Hood
Ok, I’m only four days late telling this story…so it’s time to tell it, damnit!
Monday, My Mikey and I took Nanny to Fort Hood, which is located in Killeen, Texas, for those who don’t know. It is a good 100 miles or so from Corsicana, which is our spiral prison/home.
The day started off badly. Mikey had a notion all of a sudden that renewing Nanny’s military id card was not something that Ft. Hood would do. Then Mama tells me that we need to show proof of insurance. Well, we don’t HAVE insurance….I know…against the law, but let the goddamned law pay for it!
Piers was in splendid fettle that morning. He’s the one that wrote the "drop dead" entry that morning. Drama ho!
Anyway, the day went fairly well, except that it gave a startling new insight about Nanny. She is FAR more gone than I had ever known. She even admitted to us that she feels like she is going senile. That upset the hell out of me, of course, but it is apparently a fact, and it must be dealt with as such.
She only insulted me about three times all day long, which has got to be a new record for low frequency of insults!!!!
Mostly, it was pleasant talk, with "Laurie" and Nanny doing what seemed a lot bonding. I was happy about that part of it.
We talked, chatted, laughed, told stories, talked more, told more stories, and had a few fun stops along the way to eat and/or smoke.
It was good, but the realizations of my grandmother’s downhill slide becoming a downward highspeed spiral dampened some of the joy. Not much, but some.
I’m trying…so very hard…to narrow the space. Piers is even trying, but he is less knowledgeable about peace-keeping, you know?
Much love to all who read us.
My Mikey, I love you forever times PI cubed plus one,
Your Jack
