Everything is still okay
For me and my family. For other people, not so much. No one that I know, though,
Spaghetti had a baby yesterday. This is amazing to me. My first very close friend to have one. I’m probably going to visit her today. The last week she’s been saying "i’m not bringing a kid into this situation", and it seems to have actually kind of worked. She managed to hold almost a week past her due date.
My parents are driving me crazy. It’s almost as if i’ve turned into their parents. What can I tell you – they were better at parenting than I am. They live in Haifa and I live more south, in Tel Aviv. I keep telling them to come south and stay over. My dad works in Tel Aviv anyway, but my mom works in Haifa and she wants to stay at home. My dad doesn’t want to let her be there alone. I don’t understand why they have to put themselves in the middle of the danger zone when they can just come here, but they won’t listen.
It seems like everything I say just works as reverse psychology. My mom always used every excuse to come to Tel Aviv and hang out with me and my brother because she felt kind of lonely since we moved out. Now i’m like "come, sleep over, we’ll go shopping" and she laughs and says "that’s very sweet, but i like my house, my own bed". I call them every day in the morning and in the evening, to see if everything is okay and they take their time answering me. I’m not really worried, you know, but I COULD be!…. Giraffe said she calls her parents after every rocket that falls in Haifa. That’s about 5 times a day.
I told them they could take over our house for the weekend and we would go to Nir’s family. They said they would see. I said "i’ll get you all of you favourite food. The ice-creams that you like"… they didn’t give me an answer so I called and left (on purpose) the exact message my mom leaves me every Thursday. "I wanted to know what your plans are for the weekend because I have to know what to make for dinner"… jewish mother much?
Ack. I have to do my laundry. I usually take it to their house every other weekend. I don’t even have my own machine. Also, I had an appointment for hair removal in Haifa. Cancelled. Tiny little holes in the Tel Aviv bubble… still, in tel aviv everyone is hanging out on the beach, shopping, having the time of their lives. Especially the people who came from the north. It’s like someone suddenly turned on the color on their TV. They have all the time, the excuses and the energy in th world to shop and party.
Meanwhile, wedding plans are coming along. As requested by maddie, here is a picture of the dress but the model is not me, of course. I’ll be making a few changes, especially in the chest area.
I have: DJ, photographer, place, catering, decorator, rabbi, makeup, shoes, wedding night hotel rooms, invitations.
Yet to do: Hair, rings, home-made movie, seating arangements, send out invitations, figure out what we want for out honey moon.
I”m beyond stressed by now. I’m more towards "whatever". I just hope to celebrate it in a nice national mood.
I understand how you feel. I have a wedding coming up too. I am so tired of trying to organise things that I told my mother-in-law “you organise it, and I’ll come on the day.” She said it’s not that easy, but I wish it was. That dress is beautiful.

Wow, awesome dress! That’s amazing! It’s great of you to look out for your parents. People do things in their own time, I guess. Ican never get my father to do anything that wasn’t his own idea.

That dress is gorgeous. Maybe your mom is feeling…defiant…in a way? Maybe she’s fine with going to visit you because she WANTS to, but not because some terrorist is forcing her hand.

The dress is truly beautful… 🙂 …maybe your mother feels like she doesn’t want to run away from where she lives? I don’t know. It must be a hard situation…

That’s a beautiful dress! My cousin lives just outside of Haifa. His wife’s family lives in Jerusalem. They just had their SEVENTH baby, and still.. they’re not leaving. Her parents are wanting them to, but they’re sticking around their home. I hope this all ends soon. 🙁
