Dangerous
As I was walking towards my house this evening, i suddenly noticed that the street was full of police cars and fossible a fire truck. The lights of the police cars were blinking and it seemed like a lot of people were gathered at the corner of our street. There was astrange sound of voices, not exactly talking but not exactly screeming either.
I wondered what the hell could be going on. The streets in my neighborhood are too narrow for a serious car accident,. The place is too quiet and not rich enough for a mega-looting, and the crowd looked to big for something private like domestic voilence. I guessed that one of the kids at the art college had lost it and was threatening to jump off the buildin. When i got closer, the screemingish sound became louder.
As i was turning the corner, I saw that there were three police cars and one fire truck, and realized that what I had heard wasn’t screeming but some kind of chanting and singing. I realized it must be a demonstration or riot of some sort. The neighborhood dogs were barking loudly. Then I actually turned the corner and saw something amazing – about a hundred people carrying torches and chanting something uncomprehensible.
An a minute later I realized they were kids from the local kindergarden, with their parents . And the event was….. a hannukah parade. All of the kids were holding up these big candles and singing "we’ve come to chase away the darkness". I guess the police were there to protect the kids, and the fire fighter in case one of the candles burned someone. The dogs were barking because of the fire.
Happy Hannukah.
That is one scary Hanukkah parade! I shudder to think what might’ve gone down if somebody brought out– *gasp!*– A DREIDEL!! All hell might’ve broken loose!

That must have been a wonderful sight once you’d gotten over the initial apprehension. I love candlelight parades. RYN: Yes, Dad’s is a brand of cookies you can buy in Canada and probably the US as well. They’ve been around for a long time.

That must have been an odd experience… I’m glad it turned out the way it did though
