I agree with nearly everything you said to both us and Karsten; however, I think you should leave out the GRE studying since he gets mad when his father mentions it or "physics" or "math" or "PhD".  Maybe you could suggest something else.  We’ve already told him we’re willing to send him anywhere to try anything except the military.  KS said he would even send him to stay with his brother is Taiwan if that would help.
 
I’m going to send you both what I wrote him and what he wrote in his diary.  Don’t reply to these emails but send me a new email for I’m going to delete them as soon as I send them to you.  He found out I was looking at his diary and thus won’t write his thoughts in there anymore.
