DESPERATE NY Times REWRITES HISTORY for Hillary!!

Benghazi: The attempt to rehabilitate Hillary Clinton begins as the New York Times revives the long-ago debunked “video clip” excuse for the well-planned Benghazi massacre while denying documented al-Qaida involvement.

These days it’s all the news that is fit to be made up that graces the pages of the once-proud Gray Lady that has morphed from a self-proclaimed “newspaper of record” to the house organ for the Obama administration.

The latest example is a piece on the Benghazi terrorist attack of Sept. 10, 2010, titled, “A Deadly Mix in Benghazi.” It resembles the infamous White House talking points — on steroids.

The Times tries to present a truth from a parallel universe that it claims is somewhere between the Obama administration’s long-repeated claim that “the video, which was posted on YouTube, inspired spontaneous street protests that got out of hand” and the version “favored by Republicans, (that) holds that (U.S. Ambassador Chris) Stevens died in a carefully planned assault by al-Qaida to mark the anniversary of its strike on the United States 11 years before.”

Then, in a spasm of journalistic doublespeak, the Times proclaims “Benghazi was not infiltrated by al-Qaida, but nonetheless contained grave local threats to American interests. The attack does not appear to have been meticulously planned, but neither was it spontaneous or without warning signs.”

The Times goes on to describe then-U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice’s recitation of the edited talking points on five Sunday talk shows as simply a “misstatement” and not a lie agreed upon.

Perhaps the best refutation of this article is the New York Times’ own reporting. As Kerry Picket writes at Breitbart.com, a 2011 Times story noted that Sufyan Ben Qumu, a leader of Libya’s Ansar al-Sharia militia, “escaped from a Libyan prison in 1993 and went on to Afghanistan to train at a camp run by Osama bin Laden.”

ABC’s Jonathan Karl reported that subsequent talking-point edits included requests from the State Department that references to the al-Qaida-affiliated group Ansar al-Sharia be deleted as well as references to CIA warnings about terrorist threats in Benghazi in the months preceding the attack.

And there would be no mention of email traffic reporting that Ansar al-Sharia had taken credit for the attack.

The administration’s narrative that al-Qaida was defeated and on the run would have been destroyed and President Obama’s re-election chances diminished by an admission that Benghazi was indeed a well-planned terrorist attack involving heavy weapons, rocket-propelled grenades and deadly accurate mortar fire.

So the video excuse was invented and propagated, in part, to protect former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s political future.

“I will tell you this, by witness testimony and a year and a half of interviewing everyone that was on the ground by the way, either by an FBI investigator or the committee: It was very clear to the individuals on the ground that this was an al-Qaida-led event,” Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, told Fox News in November.

As Fox News reports, witnesses have described the mortar fire as accurate, professional and likely the work of a trained mortar team, which they believed included a spotter. The second wave of the well-planned attack, which killed former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, is dismissed by the Times as “improvised that night.”

The New York Times piece also directly contradicts the sworn testimony before Congress of Gregory Hicks, the deputy chief of mission in Libya and a foreign service officer for 22 years.

He was demoted to desk officer for telling the truth that those in Libya knew it was a terrorist attack from the “get-go,” that there was no “protest” or mention of one from anyone on the ground, and that the infamous YouTube video was “a non-event” in Libya.

Hillary Clinton would famously testify before Congress, “What difference does it make now?”

For her political handlers at the New York Times, it apparently makes a great deal of difference.
