pictures of my cuties

So I promised pictures of little Ruby. But first thing’s first.

I brought Ruby home yesterday and she has been an absolute gem. No accidents, no barking, no bothering the cats. She doesn’t beg for people food, and she is eating her dog food and drinking her water quite well. We played for a while, went for a walk, played in the snow, and then she was exhausted. I can’t believe how good she seems so far. I was hesitant to get an adult dog because I was worried that any personality flaws that existed (shyness, fear, noisiness, etc.) would be difficult to train out at this point.

I know it’s only been 24 hours but I couldn’t have asked for anything better. She is amazing. She even goes in her kennel when I tell her to without complaining. She is a little spoiled, though. If she is playing and you stop paying her any attention, she will wimper. But it is so dang cute.

When it was bed time, she hopped right up the stairs and climbed into bed at the foot of the bed and slept there the whole night. Never got up to do a damn thing.

And the best part is, she is totally unamused by the cats. I was worried that because she is a scent hound, she would view the cats as toys, or worse – food. But she doesn’t even bat an eye at them when they walk around. She doesn’t chase them, bark at them or even really notice them.

But.

The cats are not feeling her as much as she is feeling them. Hemi is doing much better than Dirty. But then Dirty is the alpha male so he probably feels more threatened than Hemi. We have done all the things you are supposed to do when introducing pets, but this is what we got:

Hemi on top of the cabinets in the kitchen. Never seen him up there before. Don’t even know how he did it. He doesn’t have front claws so he couldn’t even use those as grippers.

I actually couldn’t find Hemi for a while. Then I was getting all three breakfast’s ready and he scared me because I saw him out of the corner of my eye and wasn’t expecting to.

And the dog is eating the cat food and vice versa. Not sure how to fix that.

Below is the little Ruby. But don’t let her cuteness fool you. She is actually close to 50 pounds. She is a little chunk. Need to do some exercising with her. It sounds like her last family didn’t walk her very often. It also sounds like Ruby at mostly people food.

Bad, bad, bad.

But we are here to fix that.

Now she is winking for the camera:

So there you have my little Ruby Dee. I’ll keep you posted on the cat’s progress. They are slowly coming around.

Below are just a couple pictures from when I was hanging out with Isaiah and Madaya. The first picture we were playing a board game called Horton Hears a Who.

Here the kids are drinking hot chocolate after playing outside in the snow.

Here they are feeding the cats.

And here they are in the morning eating breakfast. Neither of them are morning people…

The end!

When I had both dog and cat and my dog kept eating cat fod I simply put the cat bowls on a table. No problem for cats tro climb there, but my dog couldn’t. Your dog sounds so nice! And I’m sure your cats will get used to her in a few weeks.

Cute animals! Love the winking Ruby picture… and the last one of the kids in the morning… I can totally relate. Don’t bug me before coffee.

Your dog looks so sweet! We never had purebreeds, I always find it strange when other people do. Our bigger dog always used to eat the smaller’s food, so we put it under a cabinet where only one of them could reach it. And the smaller one used to scare the bigger one away from his, but we just got him to stay with us til he’d finished, cos the big one took 30secs and the little takes all day.

ahh how cute with the winking. I once found a cat outside in a storm. she winked at me so I named her Winky…in retrospect….i would not have done that. I like the picture of them feeding the cats. I wish I was that excited about feeding the animals still.

also i like how your cat in the ceiling he looks like he thinks you are amusing to think he might want to get on the floor where that Ruby beast is. Cats are so funny.

Awwwwwwwwwwww all your cuties are so cute!! I love the last pic of the kids…lol And I laughed at the cat on the cabinets! It’s good that they aren’t all fighting and chasing each other though! My cats are still fighting with Matt’s cat. After three months, no improvement. Not sure what will happen when we bring in a dog. Oh boy. 🙂

January 15, 2009

I too put my cats food bowls up on my kitchen island. Not so much cuz the dog ate it but b/c they wouldn’t eat it after the dog slobbered on it!! 🙂 After a while the dog realized his own food was better and vice versa…except for the wet stuff. The cats still have to hide out on the countertop to enjoy their occasional canned treat.

January 15, 2009

Of course now the cats have all but forgotten they’re not suppose to be on countertops, tables, etc… Can’t wait to have someone over for dinner and have one of ’em walk across the dining room table!!

Im alive.

January 15, 2009

no no he didn’t mean me. Three days later he didn’t mean me with “last night” Also he got a message from some 15 year old saying “Yes last night WAS amazing” Blech… and I sent him messages and he like read one and left one “sent” and I was just getting to into myspace….It gets to be an obsession with me….

January 16, 2009

I LOVE, love, LoVe these pics!! So cute! … all of them! I especially like the one of Hemi up on the cabinets ..lol … poor baby! 🙂

GAH! That “feeding the cats” picture is the cutest of them all! And the puppy is beautiful, I like the wink. *whines about wanting a dog in my Kleenex-box of an apartment* I will keep working as much OT as possible so I can afford to go out with you and buy things I don’t need in any way. *nods*
