our little bundle of joy
guess what today is?
today is the day i go pick up my little pride and joy from the adoption agency.
i am bursting with excitement!
for the first time in months (years?) i woke up earlier than necessary to get ready for work because i am so overwhelmed with joy.
normally i wake up at the last possible moment so i can barely get everything done i need to get done in order to get to work on time…or rather, a few minutes late.
and forget about breakfast. what’s breakfast?
well, today i ate a bowl of cereal.
you know why?
because i had the time.
know why i had the time?
because i am excited.
know why i am excited?
because today i become a mother to my third little friend…
an adorable 4 year old fat little beagle dog named Ruby.
i am screaming inside. i want to die of excitement.
and i want to squeeze her so hard that she (almost) pops.
we found her yesterday cruising the corridor of dogs at the humane society near our house.
and she just has the sweetest little face and the fatest little body.
she was surrendered by a family that was supposedly moving and couldn’t take her with.
she is house trained and responds very well to many commands.
and she is full of lots of kisses and a tail that won’t stop wagging.
we spent quite a bit of time with her yesterday.
i went home and did some more research on her breed just to make sure we could give her a good home. i had already done some research on beagles because when i took several of those "canine compatibility" quizzes online that many of you directed me to, they ALL said beagles would be a good fit for us.
i was hesitant because of their howling and baying. i live in a townhouse and don’t want to upset the neighbors.
but when all of the dogs were going apoplectic yesterday at the shelter, she was calm and collected and didn’t make a peep. when she was outside playing with us and people and/or dogs walked by, she was totally disinterested.
that’s not to say she won’t bark. because she will. especially when she gets comfortable in her new environment.
but she also seems very well trained, so perhaps it would be something we could work on with her.
i just hope she likes the cats and vice-versa. she is a hunting dog, so i am worried she will think the cats would make a good lunch…but we have 30 days to see.
if it doesn’t work out between the 3 little ones, we can bring her back so she can be placed with a better home.
i hope that doesn’t happen.
i can’t wait to go get my little girl.
pictures soon….
good for you. i wish i had the time and money to adopt a thousand animals. 3 cats and 1 puppy keep me pretty busy.
