Good News for Once!

My dance class is a success!  No!  Really!  I mean it!  It’s so successful that I’ve been told I need to teach more often!  So you know what?  I will be!

This is the deal.  I announced to the class that I’m going to start teaching on Saturdays, that we’d be doing cue based improv as our class content.  Then I was told I should teach more often.  I mentioned that there were a few students that were ready for a more advanced class.  Guess what?  I’m going to have one!

Now I’m going to be teaching Tuesday nights, Wednesday nights, and Saturday afternoons!  One of those weeks I’m going to have a workshop dedicated to costumes as soon as the improv class gets going!

I’ve also asked one of my students to consider dancing at the Belton Market in September!  That should be plenty of time to get ready and she’s certainly good enough!  I wouldn’t have asked her to if she wasn’t!  She’s an incredible dancer.  I have no idea WHAT she’s doing in a beginner’s class!  I’m just glad she’s having a good time!  She’s probably my best student, after Gina, but Gina cheats.  She’s probably had more training.

I’m also going to be working on costumes that I can sell at the store and the haflas as well.  That means more income potential!  That means more potential to get belly dance out there and well known!

On top of that, there’s a LYS (local yarn store) opening up!  It’ll be right around the corner from where I’m teaching!  Talk about temptation!  It’ll be so nice and convenient!  I can pick out new sock yarn when I’m done making my happy socks and my one pair of gray fall socks!  I’m going to be the sock making queen!  Beware, everyone!  You will never escape the pile of socks I will make!  Okay, I’m not that bad….but bad enough!

I found out that there’s a general skills certification with FatChance BellyDance coming up in the winter!  It’ll probably be $500-600 plus a three day stay in Dallas/Fort Worth.  On top of that, there will be food and gas expenses.  That’s a three hour drive!  I may even have to throw in the cost of a sitter to watch the kids or find some way to make it work should Caelan deploy before then.  That’s a lot of money.  However, Caelan will make rank by then.  I’ll hopefully be able to squirrel away enough that I can take the certification class without having to worry about it by then.  This is something that’s important to me.  The next step from there is the teaching certification!  I still want to get certified through Suhaila’s program as well, but the FCBD is not only coming to the area, but it will allow me to do something that’s not even around this area, teach ATS!

Finally, I think I want to start thinking about opening a studio.  It would be really great if I could get the building that used to be part of the old furniture store in the area.  That’s right across from the store I teach at now!  That would be incredible!  But more realistically, I’d be happy to have anywhere with a few mirrors and a front desk!  I’d need someone to run my books for me, but that’s fine.  I can work with that.  I’d do sessions of dance.  I could probably get yoga classes in there with the instructor that teaches at the store.  I’m sure we could get some other stuff going on in there too!  I know I can’t afford it.  I know it’s not exactly going to happen around here, but I can dream, right?

So I’ll toss in some positives because I may as well, even though they’ll probably be repeats of what I’ve already written thus far!

1) FCBD is coming to do a GS workshop!  I must take it!!

2) My class is rocking!  It’s going so well that I might just end up teaching every night!  Okay, I’m not hoping for that, really, but if I can add two more classes I’ll be making enough money to more than support my dance habit on!

3) I have my own income now!  And if it keeps up at this rate, it’s going to be decently significant!  I’m going to be making enough to justify the spending money I want every month!  And enough to justify things like the workshops and classes I’d love to take!

4) I’ve decided I need to take some courses on enterperneurship…or business classes, or something.  That means going to get my GED and attempting to get a degree, at least an associates.  Yes, it will be pricey, but I’ll get a few things out of it.  For starters, I’l have my GED.  On top of that, I’ll also have a degree, even if it is just an associates.  And finally, I’ll be in a better place to run my own business.

5) I hurt.  No, really…I HURT!!!  No, I’m not whining or complaining.  It’s a good thing!  It means I worked my butt off!  I’ll be working my butt off three times a week from now on!

6) I’m tired.  I mean genuinely tired.  That means when I go upstairs to go to bed, I’ll actually sleep.  This is a good thing.  This is a very good thing.

7) I’ve picked out a couple pairs of earrings that I want to order when I have the money to do so.  One of them is a lovely set of abalone shell earings.  I’ve decided to get a couple easy to change earings to wear at night and a couple of tribal earings to wear during the day.  I just don’t want to break them by sleeping on them.  I had so much fun shopping for ideas.  It’ll probably be a while before I can afford any, and I should probably wait for a couple months before I change these anyway, but I at least got some ideas.

8) I’m talking to Cwellan right now…good conversation…  I guess time really does heal old wounds…

9) I’ve done a lot of thinking.  The thing with my mom and my sister doesn’t bother me anymore.  I’m surprised at just how quickly I let that go.  It’s not complete (I heard Corde screaming when her door got stuck shut last night and woke up to screaming my sister’s name and trying to get to her, I had to help her…don’t know what THAT was about…) but at least it’s one step along the way.

10) There’s video of me with fire!
