Secret Code to my Heart: 2

It seems like such a simple thing, to see a person. We do it millions of times a day. Our eyes soak in images, and we register them and go about our lives. But there is more to it. Our eyes work very hard. The speed of light, the shape of colours, and upside-down translations are all involved. Brain processing at the speed of sound. The way the heart pumps blood to the vessels in the eyes and brain. Eyes say “here it is,” and brain says “ah-ha.” Imagine then, when Derek Jeter walked into my work, smiled at me (the only one on duty), and said something. i saw him. Eyes flipped him rightside-up. Brain registered. But what was most apparent to me than anything. Faster than the speed of light. Louder than sonic booms. All i could really feel was that beating of heart against my chest. Beating up into my throat and making me smile.
