Avoiding the Faceflak

I can’t take it anymore. That semi-viral post going around about it being okay to be an atheist, Christian, and reindeer irritates the crap out of me. First, because the grammar is miserable. I don’t "shame religions as silly and not real." But I sure do believe they’re silly and not real. And that’s only the beginning. 

Being an atheist is okay. Being a Christian is okay. I still think it’s silly, but unless you want to sit down and talk about it, I’ll limit myself to sharing the occasional humanist post that strikes a chord with me and let you walk your own path up the mountain of life. I love Christians who have a personal relationship with God and aren’t offended by my lack thereof. My beliefs are -not- your problem.
Furthermore, thinking religion is silly isn’t even remotely comparable to the bigotry of people who don’t think atheists, gays, or reindeer are moral people, simply because they don’t believe in God, heterosexual intercourse, or non-luminescent noses. I completely understand the message the post is trying to get across, but it doesn’t do a good enough job doing it. My beliefs, or lack thereof, are as comparable to hate and bullying as an apple is to a freaking starfruit. Forget oranges. 
While the message is being spread with good intentions, I hear a rumor that good intentions paves the road to one of those silly places. (If you care to know, I stopped believing in hell long before I ever stopped believing in anything else. I am incapable of worshiping or revering a being so vindictive.) It’s probably paved with bad grammar too, since bad grammar causes failures in communication that humans find difficult at the best of times. 
 
So. . . f%^k that post.
