NoJoMo #19: Making Changes
This whole mouse thing has inspired some changes in our house.
First off, we’re working to declutter. There are a lot of things we’ve kept because I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to keep them or to get rid of them and I wanted to err on the side of caution. I’ve been going through kids clothes for the past few weeks trying to get rid of things that I’m not attached to and finding a place for the ones I want to keep. Today, we had Volunteers of America come and pick up two couches John’s parents so graciously dumped in our basement when they were done with them. It is an ongoing process.
We replaced our microwave stand with a wire rack to eliminate a place for the little fucker to hide. We also bought some wire cubes to put our shoes in, instead of having them piled in the floor. We also bought dressers for the kids. Sophia has/had a dresser in her room, but it was a cheapo $15 dresser and the front panel fell off. Aside from the fact that it was small, so it didn’t hold much. So lately, we’ve been living out of laundry baskets.
Not anymore.
We didn’t get the dresser for John and I yet, but I saw one I really want at Ikea. I want to go to the Ikea store and see it in person though, before I buy it. I’ll just have to find a time to do it.
Another of our neighbors walked away from their house today. I knew they were in preforeclosure, so I wasn’t surprised, but it seriously pisses me off that we’re just stuck here because everybody keeps walking away. Occasionally I think about how much money we could save if we just stopped paying our mortgage. We could pay off a lot of our credit card debt, and just deal with an apartment for a while. Do the whole strategic default thing.
