Uncle Tom’s Cabin – Revisited

So…  I’m looking out the window at work and I see this middle aged – getting on to elderly black man (or is it man of color now adays?) walking accross the almost empty parking lot, trees behind him blowing in the wind.  He’s carrying a medium sized leather bag and  I think to myself… Ohhh… he looks like a nice man, wonder if he just got here?  Wonder where he’s traveling to?  I smile to myself.  🙂

A few minutes later I hear a commotion in the lobby so I go to investigate.  Here stands this obviously white bread woman going on and on about this man with a BIG BLACK satchel wondering the parking lot and OH MY GOSH!  He’s about to aproch some people!  She soon had everyone else there looking out the window, worried.

I just stood there with a blank look on my face (trying hard to keep my mouth from dropping wide open)  I just told the woman that I thought he looked harmless to me.  She kept going on and on about the BIG BLACK satchel.   Then she said… Well… we just don’t get people like that around here.

Later on my co-worker and I had a big laugh about the whole incident because she could not believe there were still people around like her.  I told her it did not surprise me because this particular city where we work are nothing but filled with people like that.

What happened to Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?
