…
Here I am.
i think, anyway.
I just capped off one of the longest weekend|week|weekends ever by discovering that I have been "dismised" from school. Not much to say about that. For those who havent been around for a long time, I didnt go to college until I was 23. Completed over 3 years of a BA then moved to NJ and couldnt find another program. Settled for one, then another online graphic design AS programs, losing practically all credits. And you know what? I am just so fucking tired of it. I am tired of paying over and over for classes on shit I already know. I am tired of being told "Fundamentals of Deisgn" and "Design Fundamentals" are such different courses that the credit wont transfer. I am tired of staying up until 4 am half the week to "design a logo". Yeah buddy, I do that about twice a week. Can’t I get some experiential credit for that?
For the most part, I am just sick and tired. School was enlightening and enriching when I went for fine art. I was in a group of my peers, discovering my personal artistic language. I wrote epic papers on periods in art. In the two years since I started going to school for this nonsense, I havent painted|sculpted|drawn once. Not once. I think that is pretty sad. I’ll leave designing the sellout empty bullshit to the 9-5. Rather, the 9-wheneverthefuckshitisdone. Which sort-of explains why I got thrown out of school.
In the six months I have to figure it out before Sallie Mae sends the knee breaker to my door, I’ll make a plan. Right now, I’m just glad to have my life back.
I suppose I will post a real update soon. Until then….
dismissed from school? man that really sucks ass! it sounds like tho .. and i could be wrong … but it sounds like even tho its a pissy thing, maybe slightly relieving as well? Schools, like all other forms of business, have the bottom line foremost in their minds. That is why so many credits are not accepted. You should have kept the old school catalog with course descriptions and compared them before applying, then when they said no, you stick it to them. But hindsight… Wishing you well in whatever you do , my friend.
