Catch Up Day

Hubby Don just got home from work but I always try to give him a little time to unwind before I approach him. Not that he is grumpy but I know I need a little bit of unwind time when I get home from work.  He had a prisoner transport from one of the prisons to our jail today. It was supposed to snow but didn’t so I am grateful for that.

I ended up having to work all night Sunday night so I slept most of the day yesterday. Monday is normally my laundry and cleaning day but it got shoved to today. I did 3 loads of laundry which is a lot for us. Not sure how that happened.

I am teaching Children’s Church at our church this month. We usually only have to teach one month every 6 months but the one that was supposed to do it this month backed out, so I volunteered. I was so out of my comfort zone the first time I had to do it. I used to work with kids but they were Kids At Risk and kids in trouble so this is a lot different. I ended up loving it and the kids! However, they can get a little rowdy. However, I think I discovered the secret to better behavior. I let them help me as much as possible. One of them lead the worship song and helped the others shoot the slingshot(bet you can guess which Bible story we studied), another one helped me with the lesson. He was just a little guy, about 6-7 years old but he knew things about the story that I didn’t until I researched if for the lesson, I praised him for his knowledge and told his grandmother how proud of him I was. She said that he had just came out of foster care and his foster mother was incredible in teaching him. Another one put away everyone’s name tags at the end of the session and another one asked me if she could pass out the coloring pages that were going home with everyone. I had such a good time.

Sunday night at work wasn’t so entertaining! Several months ago we had an officer involved shooting. We ended up losing the officer because of it. He just couldn’t handle the reaction from the public. The man was pointing a gun at him and wouldn’t respond to commands to put the gun down so the officer had no choice but to shoot first. Sunday night we had a very similar situation but the man was smart enough to respond to commands in a prompt and correct manner. He went to jail but at least he is still alive! Having had more than one husband, a son and a grandson in law enforcement gives me anxiety, more now than previously when officers (and lives) were respected. People have always asked me how I can stand to bebehind the radios and listen to my loved ones in trouble. However, I would rather be there where I can possibly help them than be at home helpless.

I think it might be time to go see how hubby’s day went. Ciao for now!

We are definitely living in a different type of world now. I prefer the world of days gone by.

The “public” has no idea what it’s like to be a peace officer. I feel bad for the officer who was forced to quit because of it.

@startingover_1 Exactly! He is a young, but good, officer and was having trouble handling the entire event anyway and then people and the newspaper started a campaign pretty much against him. He just couldn’t take it any longer and moved as far away as he could get. We miss him!
