things.
there’s a moment when aaron leaves with joaquin in the morning, where i take a deep breath and pause. camus looks at me expectantly; with his furrowed brow and giant eyes; and says "time for my walk!" so i throw on a hoodie and some walking shoes and off we go. the mornings are sweet with my boys. joaquin is always in a good mood in the morning, especially now that he’s sleeping 8-10 hour stretches. it is a magical thing, actually.
on friday i had a "business" lunch with liana and jen and i told them i was going to attempt to drop joaquin’s 4am feeding. "it’s time. he’s a big boy now." jen looked at me and said, yeah, it will be a bit hard, but give it 2-3 days. so aaron and i discussed our action plan "with" joaquin and decided that we would likely give it a try AFTER the weekend. but amazingly, that night, he slept through his normal wake-up time and skipped the feeding all on his own. we were stunned. the next night he had a bit more trouble settling himself, but we skipped the feeding anyway. i woke up with him at 6:30a and fed him, then put him back down and he gave us another hour of sleep. then, the next night, he slept through until 7a! Simply amazing. he briefly woke up last night at the usual time, but we gave him a few minutes to try and settle himself back to sleep, and he did just that.

and just like that, my 4a feedings are done. i still wake up, like clockwork, at the time i’m used to feeding him, but now i just settle myself back in … on one hand i miss it. he was so snuggly and delightfully groggy and sweetly malleable during those feedings. but on the other hand, i REALLY love to sleep. so it’s good. i think.
i’m working on some new business pitches this week while i recruit for a project that will be in the field on april 22nd. work is busy, but super manageable, and i feel so incredibly light these days. maybe i’m finally getting the hang of this working mommy thing?
i have to get dressed all fancy today and hop in the car to drive to orange county with a bunch of agency guys to help them pitch an electronics client. if they successfully win it, then we will likely be their go-to research partner and it could actually be fun. if THEY win it.
i have a call tomorrow with an enterainment company looking for some female moderators to help them with their studio client research. i’m very optimistic and excited about this one. i think it could be a regular, ongoing parntership and it’s LOCAL, which is awesome. plus i love movie research, and i’m good at it. so we would all win. fingers crossed!
on sunday i cashed in gift certificates from aaron and from my brother- and sister-in-law and spent four glorious hours at the spa. i had a massage, facial and pedicure. i also spent time in the steam room and took a forever-long hot shower, just because i could. i also took a catnap in the "quiet room" in between treatments and came out on the other side a brand new, shiny person. it was so wonderful. afterwards, we gave JRB his nightly bath and i he drifted off to sleep on me while aaron and i sipped wine and watched mad men. it really doesn’t get much better than that.
my dad was in the hospital on friday night with heart troubles, having stents put in. he’s out now, and feeling better; and i had a long talk with him friday night, and it was good. but he’s so far away, and hasn’t met JRB yet. i can only hope his planned trip with my stepmom in may actually happens. i would be filled with so much regret if something happened and JRB didn’t get to meet him. i hope my dad has many years left, but i have to be realistic and make plans for grandson and grandpa to meet, ASAP.
so many more things to document and share, but work calls, so off i go.
i leave you with this.
naked baby in the tub, discussing things.
That picture made me smile. He’s so sweet! Glad to hear things are falling into place. 🙂

How great you dropped the feedings so easily! Glad your dad is feeling better. Haven’t seen you write too much about him in the past, but hopefully the trip will happen. Photo isn’t showing for me 🙁 I’ll just have to scroll back a few entries to make up for it!

Sad face, the picture isn’t showing for me. As for JRB dropping the 4am feeding… That’s kind of how it went with Gavo too. I honestly think one night he woke up around 4am and I was so tired I didn’t immediately get up and feed him, and he settled himself back to sleep in under 5 minutes. I was like, WTF? Will he do that EVERY time if I don’t immediately respond to his 4am wake up? And sure

enough, he did. I figured if he woke up really, really hungry he wouldn’t be able to settle himself back down and I would feed him. But he always settled himself. So yay! I’m glad you guys made the transition – it makes life 100% easier. I’m so jealous of your spa day. What I wouldn’t give for a spa day. Or just a massage, really. Sigh.
