oh da baby

this week was SO much better than last week.   well, work-wise anyway.   joaquin was back at my mother-in-law’s for chunks of time so i was able to be more productive.  so that was good.

HOWEVER.   poor jrb contracted his first cold and he had a few days of pure misery.  i felt awful for him, but then i also felt awful for us.   thank GOD aaron recovered from his flu-ish thing he had last week just in time to help me get through this week.

note to self: i’m never bringing joaquin around other kids, ever.   he had a play date with the most adorable kiddos last week, but the very next morning he woke up with a little cough, and then it slowly progressed into a coughy-sneezy-runny nose situation.   BAH.   he only actually had ONE terrible night of sleep, but overall he was just so pitiful.  i felt so bad for him.

joaquin turned SEVEN MONTHS yesteday.   kazoinks.

today we went for a run along the beach, and it was glorious.   then i came home, played with my buddy, showered and then headed to hollywood to get a mani/pedi with my mother-in-law.  it was my birthday present and lo,  it was glorious.  i came home and mowed down a salad with aaron, then we caught up on "the americans" and ate some desserts and now i’m enjoying a beer before we call it a night.

these days —

joaquin is loving:

– when we say I-I-I-I- LO-O-O-O-VE YOU–U-U-U-!
– watching our eyebrows go up & down
– practicing his walking skills
– mimicking how he thinks we look when we talk
– biting me while nursing (this is SO NOT GOOD, but he thinks he’s so funny!?  WTF)
– going for walks strapped to papa in his ergo
– going for runs along the beach (well, he’s only done this once, but he seemed to really enjoy it)
– FOOD.  ALL OF THE FOOD.   there’s nothing he won’t eat.   we give him tastes of our food, and we’ve blended up salads in his baby bullet.  he says: YES PLEASE MORE NOW.
– bath time splashing
– spending time in the crawl position
– being naked
– peek-a-boo
– animal noises
– baby genius DVDs
– when i brush my teeth with the electric tootbrush

momma is loving:

– fitting in all pre-pregnancy clothes
– weighing in at my pre-pregnancy weight
– starting to get back into an actual fitness regimen
– completing three projects in the past two weeks (which equals FINALLY getting paid this year!)
– wine on friday nights (and saturday, and maybe sunday)
– the walking dead
– anticipation of a birthday spa day – maybe next weekend?
– anticipation of a weekend in palm desert for coachella (april 12-14
– anticipation of aaron’s sister coming for a visit
– anticipation of my parents coming in june

momma is TRYING to be more positive about:

– figuring out a work/momma/wife balance
– being self-employed and not knowing how to predict the future
– owing the IRS a shit-ton of money based on doing a terrible job of estimating my estimated taxes in 2012 (d’oh!)
– upcoming work travel to SF and Philadelphia

ok.   that was helpful.   now a quick episode of "girls" while i finish mah beer and then we’ll call it a night.

R: Interesting take, and one of my first thoughts as well. I can’t help but feel a semblance of relief (not sure if that’s the right word, but we’ll go with it) in not wanting to work out so much. Feels like some of the pressure has been taken away. But then I worry that it’s just the first step on a slippery slope. Hmmm.

RYN: Yay! Glad you found me! I was in the couch cushions all along. I didn’t bother you because I didn’t know if you were interested in following me to my new OD. I look forward to catching up!

Glad to see things are going pretty well! Joaquin sound pretty great (except for the biting). Congrats on getting back to pre-pregnancy you!

RYN: Indeed, I shall keep my fingers crossed…except for when I am doing tasks that require additional dexterity.

R: Yay! It’s a great way to eat, even if you don’t have any food/gluten sensitivities. Gluten and vegetable oil (omega 6s) create inflammation in the body, which leads to a host of other problems later down the road (or currently as well). Let me know if you want any resources or have any questions. Especially as you delve deeper into it – it can get a little confusing. 🙂
