life in the new year
work has been hectic, but only because we are in hyper-over-drive pitch and marketing mode. we’re also trying to get a handle on our finances for tax purposes with our new structure and Biggie didn’t lie when he said Mo Money Mo Problems, ya’ll. we nearly doubled our earnings in 2012 compared to 2011 and have a shitton of 1099s to reconcile because we had to hire so many people to help us get all our work done, especially when i was on maternity leave. also, filing for an LLC partnership is much more complex than a sole proprietorship and we have a meeting with our tax guy on monday to sort through all the muck. we’ve also taken on a new partner in a joint venture capacity and it’s bringing all sorts of new things to light. mainly: liana and i have kind of been making it up as we go along and now we need to be be Real Small Business Owner Professionals. it’s all good stuff, but it’s a lot, and it’s weird to be working so much without actually making money from it. yet.

but we have lots of irons in the fire and work is perkolating so much so that if more than one of these projects hits, we will be more than up to our eyeballs in work fun.
also, aaron has had several auditions this week! yay.
which means: joaquin has been staying with my MIL for longer and longer stints of time, which means i am a pumping machine so that he has enough bottles of milk when he’s not with me. the visual of me standing at my computer working while pumping is probably a lot sexier in your head than it is in person. wait, it’s not SEXY AT ALL, EITHER WAY. but it’s good, because i’m getting used to pumping more and stockpiling so when i travel (which looks like it will be most likely happening in feb), he will be fully stocked. good times, ya’ll. my plan is to continue breast-feeding him until at least 9 months, ideally 12 months so…4.5 down, 7.5 to go! wheee!
in other news, we are eagerly anticipating the line-up for coachella because for the first time ever, we’ve actually pre-purchased our 3-day passes and have plans to actually go to the festival! i’ve actually gone to coachella one time, but it was only for one short night and it was because liana had enough after one day and was able to wriggle out of her wristband so i could wriggle it on. aaron hasn’t ever been, so it will be fun to go with him. also, our friends own a home in palm desert and we will be going with them, which is also cool because they have a boy a few months older than joaquin so their house is all baby-awesome and we are hoping to finagle my MIL into coming with us and watching him while we rock out to…. bands to be named.
i’m now only 6.6 lbs away from pre-pregnancy weight, but i just ate a chocolate bar and 1/2 a bag of sweet potato chips, so let’s just round that back up to 7 lbs. slowly but surely, i am getting there. aaron and i ran a 5k race this past saturday night. WELL, we THOUGHT it was a 5k, but it was the first inagural downtown LA night race, and there was also a half-marathon, so for some reason the volunteers got confused and had the early runners turn in the wrong spot so we ended up running more like 4 miles instead of 3.1 or whatever a 5k is. In good news, I think I averaged sub-9 minute miles, but we’ll never really know because I have no idea what my actual mileage or time was because our chip times were also totally effed up. it was fun running at night in my hood, though, and i loved the old feeling of race adrenaline rushing through my old lady blood and bones.
um. joaqin continues to grow and evolve like crazy and it’s FREAKING AMAZING to me to watch it happen. a lot of days i have to remind myself that he was in my belly once and that he was small enough to have been, because by looking at him now, you really couldn’t imagine it. he’s a ray of sunshine and i love him more than i could have ever imagined. also, our "sleep training" efforts seemed to have paid off, and he only woke up once last night to feed and this is a very, very Good Thing.
i have to go pump now. bye.
I am so glad you’re not taking the baby into the concert. A night race sounds so much fun, have never done that. And yay for him sleeping too!

I’m shuddering at my pumping memories 🙂 Luckily I didn’t have to do it very often… I went 5 months with my daughter and 7 months with my son. Anyhow you sound full of life as always! 🙂

All caught up. Let’s kick it soon.

Yay! I’m glad everything that is happening, is happening. What? You know what I mean. I’m happy to still be breastfeeding (albeit 2-3 times a day, only) at 8 months with Gavo… You should have no problem reaching 9.5 months. I’m hoping to make it to 12 months too, even if he goes down to once-a-day feedings. He’s still getting the benefits. Oh, and pumping is sooo sexy. 😉
