Kenny’s Sleep Study Results

So, I called Dr. Norman’s office to see if they had the results. I won’t go into the long story of how long it took to get ANY information, but here it is:

Kenny does not have obstructive sleep apnea or any other type of sleeping disorder.
Dr. Norman’s office has the results from the sleep study, but no "further plan" from the sleep study doctor. The results came in on the 31st and the plan usually follows soon after. They gave me the number to call up there to see if the plan was completed and just not sent yet (because it’ll get done faster if I do it). If they can’t help me, I’m to call Dr. Norman’s office back and let them know.

However, if Kenny doesn’t have a sleep disorder, I would think that the plan would be no further action required on the sleep disorder front. I mean the doctor isn’t an ENT. He’s a sleep specialist. I’m not worried about Kenny’s sleep so much as the fact that he has trouble swallowing and tells me his throat hurts and points to his glands. I’m just about ready to say screw it and just call the ENT I went to to make an appointment with him.

Later.

OK. Called the sleep center. The lady I talked to sounded unsure of what was needed other than that Dr. Norman’s office "needed more information." She wasn’t sure that they ever sent any more information than just the final results and that’s it.

5 minutes later…

Dr. Norman’s office just called me again. Said that the sleep center just called back. That was fast. Apparently, since all the results were normal, there is no plan. That if Kenny’s glands were still swollen (which they are – duh) then to refer us to the St. Louis Children’s ENT – which is where I wanted to go to begin with. Dammit.

Anyhow, I’ll wait to see when the ENT appointment is and take him. If the ENT says to leave it, then I’ll leave it. But I’d rather have his opinion. Gah.

Not that I begrudge the sleep study because it is important and good to know that Kenny is sleeping well and continues to breath when he does sleep. Apparently, we are just really lucky that he’s a great sleeper. WOOHOO!

Random noter: For two years my pediatrician told us there was nothing wrong with my son who was having marked trouble breathing. Finally took him to the ENT and his tonsils were so big they were obstructing his airway!! Also had his adnoids out at the same time. Good luck!

I love the run around. Yes, at least Kenny is alright. But do get his tonsils and throat looked at.

I don’t know what ENT means but I am glad that the sleep results were good.

glad he doesn’t have a disorder, but hate that the right hand doesn’t know what the left is doing!
