Ugh. I agree it sucks that OD is willing to take blood money from murdering Scilons (I’m OD+ so I’ve never seen the ads). If it were my website I would not be taking their money to let them advertise on my website. It may come to nothing but you could give it shot by emailing Bruce and expressing your concern about where his money is coming from.

I agree with you. I usually don’t mess with other people’s beliefs but scientology is creepy, I can’t believe there’re people who do anything to get inside. I also don’t like to see those ads when I log in. Sometimes I feel upset just like you! But I also have to say that the world is free, and we, humans, have a great ability to ignore what we don’t like 😉 Just ignore the ads 🙂

I like that Scientology is advertising. I have an odd fascination with it and don’t think it’s any different form all other religions.

Just so some people know, there are dozens of new advertising entries on here every day. We do have the option of reporting them for violating the rules and they are usually deleted if they break diary rules. Most of them are free accounts and they are spam entries. I’m sure the Diarymaster or whoever doesn’t have time to read every new member that comes on board.

Well, Scientology was created by a guy who was quoted as saying that the best way to make money is to start a religion. Cynical to the max. When he created Scientology, he was sort of blacklisted by the sci-fi community. Scientology was specifically designed to suck poeple’s money from them. It’s sick.

We have freedom of religion in this country, they have a right to post ads wherever they choose. I don’t much like them, but it’s their right.

L Ron Hubbard admittingly started Scientology as a joke. He said that he could prove that people will believe and follow anything and he did that by starting his own religion. He made his point while also proving that Baileys statement still holds true….Their is a sucker born every minute.

I disagree with pretty much everything in scientology, but people are free to believe what they want in this country…so, they have a right to advertise, even if you don’t like it. I get what you’re saying though…it’s hard when you feel that they are truly ruining lives (and I don’t know that much about them and how much control they have over people) but I worry about getting to a point where ANY religion (or group) is prevented from saying ANYTHING in an open forum because somebody disagrees/finds it offensive/feels it is harmful. Then again, there ARE things that are objectively harmful. Fr example, I would be very against seeing an ad for FGM for example, although that is illegal so perhaps it is not the best example.

I’d rather see Scientology ads then some lying Jesus Saves bs. Since I am OD plus and have an adblocker in my browser I don’t see ads though.

Couple of thoughts here. While I agree that Scientology sucks (for the same reasons you do), you can eliminate ads by buying a lifetime membership to OD and financially supporting the site. Also, I suspect that they subscribe to an ad server, which probably just serves up random ads sold by the ad server (not OD). I could be wrong about this. It may be impossible for OD to change. ~DaddyJ

I agree to some extent, but how is advertising for a brainless religion different from advertising for cheap plastic crap that is the result of a society that thinks they need to much and screw over the majority of the people on the planet as a result. I would even call the other advertising more dangerous because Scientology is so obviously stupid, but owning 50 pairs of shoes is considered desirable. That being said, Scientology is fucking weird.

Idk…I’d partake of this Scientology fad if it meant jumping on Oprah Winfrey’s couches.

r: no they’re not the same thing at all! apart from both being outrageous harmful scams. i think as a society we’re just more comfortable with the magical powers of god because he’s been a commonplace figure in our westerner lives since birth.
