For some reason my Dad has a soft spot for cows. I think he sees them as quite majestic. He once called them “gentle beasts”.

Today is his birthday and so I drew him a comic which I then framed. It was a poem called ‘Gentle Beasts’, illustrated with drawings of Dad hugging cows:

If you walk by the farm today,
Among a cluck, or baa, or bray,
You may hear a quiet moo,
From the cow standing next to you!

These gentle beasts that graze in fields,
Juicy steaks their rumps do yield,
Are beautiful both great and small,
And good old Dad he loves them all.

A truly magnificent fete of words, I do believe.

FYI: Whenever I think of dad liking cows, I always think of that Paul Jennings story about the boy who has a cow called moonbeam that he doesn’t want to be killed

Cute! I bet he loved it. My Dad would cry over that kind of thing.
