April Flash #17

based on prompts by:

Amygdala: flag on the moon; a woman’s purse; a murdered man; six legged frog; tractor with no wheels; runaway

Haredawg: sleeping in the devil’s bed; high sticking; smoke ‘em if you got ‘em

“It’s no use waking up when you’re sleeping in the devil’s bed, crawling out from between sticky, dirty shits from a long night of whisky, street hockey fights – you still have the bruises from a bout of high-sticking that the ref didn’t see, and didn’t care to be informed of. They say there’s a flag on the moon – an American flag, but it’s all just a gag, see – a trick to tame the masses of a tangled mind – like those pictures they show you of what happens in nuclear disasters (do we finally have a leader that can say nuclear?) of six legged frogs, how the world’s going to hell in hand basket because we’re not green, we’re orange, tangled up in a mess of drug abuse, over-indulgence in sex, drugs, violence – the smoke ‘em if you got ‘em mentality of the young and uninformed.”

I stared, silently in response at the man at the bus stop next to me. What do you say to that really? Crazy people in the world, man. Crazy. He took a moment to dig in what looked like a woman’s purse, looking for his pipe or tobacco or whatever the hell he was smoking – but I’m pretty sure I had an idea that regular tobacco wasn’t it. This man was a tractor with no wheels – looney….crazy. He was gonna end up a murdered man, if he wasn’t more careful who he went spouting off to like that. I wanted to run away, really.

Never know what you’re going to come across in this crazy city. I felt like a player in a grandiose game of scavenger hunt, checking bizarre statements off my list. Sometimes life is funny like that.
