Three Card Draw…
and it’s good….it’s all very good. If I had any hint of unease left, it is lifted now. I understand, and there is a clear sign of hope for the future. Allow me to demonstrate.
Past: The Paradox – resolution of opposites/ intuitive decision/ tricky situations
it’s good but it’s bad, it’s right but it’s wrong. What is it? It’s a paradox. All faeries are paradoxical in some way. They don’t easily fit into one category. All good, or all bad just isn’t what they are about, but this is slightly different. This faerie shows up when something is, as an example, good but bad at the same time, and in equal parts. Confusing, isn’t it? Have you ever been in a situation where you know that something is the right thing to do, but if you do it, it will be absolutely the wrong thing to do? Your intellect tells you that this is a good thing, but your gut instinct tells you that it’s a bad thing. This is a time to stop and really, really, pay attention. Look for signs. Examine your feelings, your intuition, your hunches. If you draw this card singly you may want to take another to help clarify. If you have drawn this with, for example, the Queen of the Night and the Prince of Shadows, then be very very careful about how you proceed. The way won’t be clear, and something that feels right may in this case be quite wrong or hold more danger than is wise to risk. If on the other hand, you draw the Child with this card, then try looking at a situation not just from your “grown up” point of view, but from a child’s point of view. Find the balance between the two and proceed from there.
Present: Bright Spark – Understanding/Illumination/ideas
A little flash of inspiration or a bright spark is sometimes needed because it can be so difficult to figure out what’s going on. Life is a total mystery. People who are close to you seem to be speaking a foreign language. You just can’t understand how they could possibly do or say the things they do. You need a key. You need that little bit of brightness to illuminate the miasma of confusion surrounding you. Let the Bright Spark light up your life. It’s only a flicker, but it is just enough to let you glimpse the direction you should take when trying to understand a seemingly incomprehensible situation. So often it takes only a tiny amount of understanding to turn a situation around, and once you can see the way ahead, you can help others to understand as well. Only one person needs to have a spark of inspiration in any given situation. Let it be you.
Future: The Smith – Bond/Promises/Creation
The smith is as old as Faerie itself. He forges magical swords and armor for mortals and faeries alike. It is said that if your horse loses a shoe, just leave it tethered near the smith’s forge with a small silver coin; when you return in the morning your horse will be shod. As are many of the folk gifted with magical skills, the smith is lame – giving up a physical part of himself to attain a great magical skill. He is the forger of matter and the binder of oaths. If you make a promise to a beloved, he is the energy that binds the two of you together. A ring, the symbol of the bond between two people, is the energy of that bond made manifest. When you exchange a ring, imagine the smith forging that ring for you, putting the energy of Faerie into every tap of his hammer as he creates the circle that is the sign of an eternal bond. You can use this image to create a magical connection in any relationship, when you make a promise by saying “my word is my bond”, especially in Faerie, you must intend to keep it. The smith is there to forge the bond for you to take back to the human world. If the smith appears in a reading, think about what you are promising to do, to be, to achieve in your relationship and before you commit to this bond, make sure that it is something that you truly intend to do. Then let the smith forge that bond for you.
All of this totally makes sense at the moment. It’s been an emotionally exhausting 24 hours, almost exactly – but a necessary one. I just got off the phone with Devon/Spike/The girl/her and we discussed again how we feel – how we both feel closer to each other than ever before, how the events of last night cemented this for both of us in a way, and how it makes our relationship real. Sailing on always, constantly smooth waters is not reality, nor does it mean the boat is going to disintegrate if it encounters waves. For me, today, it was about learning to listen to what is actually being said, and not what I’m afraid of hearing. It’s about finding the positive, and not looking for the negative. It was about making a conscious decision to not only trust, but to believe. It was about removing myself from the situation momentarily in order to re-evaluate myself, the areas I need to focus on, re-attune to and pay attention. And although it was exhausting in a way, it was also liberating – and necessary.
We’re good. I’m good. She’s good. She had the help of a mother-guru, however – but I am very proud, and very excited to say that I relied on, and found faith in myself to pull me out of it. I listened to myself, and found the truth for myself, before I allowed myself to really HEAR her reassurances – and I didn’t have to ask for them. She gave them willingly, because she was honest, and because she loves me enough to want to.
That’s good enough for me. And I’m excited for today, tomorrow, I get to see her Wednesday, then we have the weekend. After that, it’s my excursion to the land of surprisingly bitter cold again as Michigan received sticking snowfall this morning. I get to see my best friend Graduate from college and I’m thrilled. Then I”ll be back home, enjoying every moment of this wonderful adventure, watching out for potholes and the joy that crawling back out of them entails and seeing where this wonderful adventure takes me, us and the world around us. Life is exhausting, but good.
