mccain vs. obama tax policies
(another facebook note of mine copied here)
This photo is from the Washington Post. Democrats are about as much "tax and spend" as Fox News is "fair and balanced."
While both candidates aim to mostly reduce taxes, McCain’s most drastic decreases are on the top 1% of Americans, while Obama’s only increases affect the same people. The difference between them tops $1 million.
(Btw, please be aware that months before the invasion in Iraq, Bush held a private meeting with oil companies where they drew up a map dividing Iraq between them. It’s one of the reasons Kucinich is trying to have him impeached. The moral right is just a farce for what they really are – politicians for the top 1% of Americans.)
After you account for the richest 1% of Americans, every other bracket would actually see a tax reduction in Obama’s plan. This goes against conventional wisdom for 99% of Americans that Democrat=higher taxes. With Obama’s plan, 95% of Americans would see at least a $1,000 decrease in their taxes. I daresay that helps out average Americans with spending, fuel consumption and other life expenses more than any relief package (of which Obama believes we need another, by the way).
As you move down the income scale, Obama’s tax cuts are more substantial than McCain’s and the number of American’s fitting into the bracket is much higher.
It’s just so frustrating that McCain continues to ignore the state of our economy and cites the war in Iraq and foreign policy as the biggest issue of the presidential race. Clearly those of us who aren’t millionaires think otherwise. When asked what he thought was the biggest threat to our economy, McCain answered "radical Islam extremists." Seriously?
We need an economy that can compete on the global scale with countries like China and Japan. That means working to balance the budget (not set another Republican record and make it worse), increasing the value of the dollar, and stop lieing our way into fighting foreign wars.
