Harasment Charges Filed

Dear Diary:
Things continue to be troublesome at work. My boss has again punished my department by messing with our staffing and added weekend hours. To accomplish this, he lied to his boss and the trustees of the company.  I had a discussion with my boss’ boss (manager) and he said that unless someone files a complaint, nothing is going to get done. I thought long and hard over the weekend about it and filed a formal complaint on Monday afternoon.

While individual incidents seem to be minor, their is a clear pattern of harassment by my supervisor.  Some of the hilights include:

– Repeated attempts to stop me from responding to ambulance calls. I was hired by the company with the proviso that I help the volunteer ambulance corps out by responding to calls when they can’t get enough volunteers out. That policy has not changed and it is state law that they allow me to go.

– I was threatened that if I left to go on a call that I would be written up for not supervising my department. When overtime came up a few days later I asked my boss if I should stay and supervise my crew. He said no.

– He stated on an audio tape that he was transferring my secretary out of my office so it would force me to stop taking ambulance calls.

– He stated on an audio tape that he can lie and people will believe him because of his position and wouldn’t believe subordinates.

– I have docmented incidents of him lying about things at work.

There is more stuff in there as well but the Manager is reviewing it this week and then speaking to the labor attorney about it. Not sure where it is all going but this needed to be done. Probably a long time ago but it is in motion now. I believe that I have a strong case and the Manager was shocked by some of the things that I said.

I also believe that the Manager has had it with my boss. This is his second time in this manager position so he knows better all of the games that my boss plays and with the economic problems the Manager doesn’t have time to play these silly games.

I hope the dominoes start to fall now.

I think this was a good choice. Enough is enough, and he needs to stop.

You are a brave soul. It appears you have done what you had too in the face of nonstop nonsense. It’s tough having a jerk for a boss. It can make your work world a living hell, and could make a person sick. In many cases it seems a worker has no recourse. The boss over your boss sounds reasonable and as if he will rectify the situation. Good luck to you on this. I feel it will improve things.

Good for you. Glad you’re going this route… Even if it’s messy, it sounds like it’ll be worth it.

Hi! Just came across your diary. Your boss sounds like a bit of a power freak. It takes a lot of guts to lodge a formal complaint against a superior but good on you for doing it. He needs to be made accountable and not be a law unto himself. Good luck with the outcome.
