An Interview at the Churchill!
Hubby and I got up at six AM and greeted the day with a few kisses and orange juice. He dressed for work as usual and I headed to the bathroom to bathe and get on with my day. I have not gotten my period for three months now and I thought that maybe there was a chance of me being pregnant. I bought a pregnancy test at Boots yesterday to make sure if I was pregnant or not. I took the test today and I am NOT pregnant. I was hoping that God will bless Hubby and I with child at some point and was disappointed when the test read negative. At fourty-two I am well aware that my biological clock is ticking and I know I’ve started late in life. It’s just that I had never really met my ideal husband until I met Alex! All my life I had dreamed of the day that I’d meet a suitable partner, get married and have a family of my own. I felt uncomfortable bringing any guy home with my strict parents and I had missed out on a lot of things that any average 18–24 year-old women experience. My heart kept waiting for the right type of man to enter my life at the precise time and it wasn’t until that fateful day in September 1999 that Destiny put Alex and I at each other’s path leading the way towards romance, then marraige. I’m grateful to God for bringing Alex to my life for indeed he was the One that was meant for me…he was the One who took me by surprise, rescued me from my over-protective parents and sashayed with me into the horizon of Oxford, England.
Both of us want children and before we married we had even decided upon the name of our children. We both agreed that if it is a boy we’d name him Martin Alexander Anthony Aris and if a girl Melony Rose Aris. Before we got married Mum made an appointment with a orthopedic surgeon to have him check my back. I have been diagnosed with severe scoliosis since I was eleven and I have had to wear a Milluakee brace since the age of 11 to the age of 16. Mum told me that the Orthopedic Surgeon told her that I will propbably have problems in later life with my hips and difficulties in pregnancy. So we went to the Orthopedic Surgeon and she told him what the other doctor had said and if in his opinion was I able to have a baby. The surgeon said that yes but he didn’t recommend it. I was heartbroken! Hubby and I went to the gynocologist where I had a checkup. Everything was fine! I asked her the same question and she laughed. She says as long as I am healthy and my overies and womb are fully functional then yes I can have a baby and scoliosis has nothing to do with having a baby. With the advancement in modern medicine there wouldn’t be any problems.
I was so hurt that Mum was trying to persude us not to have children! I heard from Hubby that my sister-in-law while I was at my Bridal Shower tell hubby that because of my health problems It wasn’t advisable to have kids! this also stung the heck out of me! How dare they! I know they are concerned with my health but why should they play God! God is the only one that can make things happen and the Only One that can say for sure if I can or cannot have a child!
Hubby says that he realizes that we want children yet that he’d still love me dearly even if we can’t have any children. He says we have to be prepared financially before we can have children. Every time we make love he uses protective sex. I just pray that God blesses us with at least one child in this marriage. I won’t go against God’s wishes and it is only Him that has the power to grant this blessing! With God everything is possible!
So, anyway, after being a bit tearful this morning at the prospect of not being pregnant, I got dressed and began to go through my mid-morning routine when the phone rang. I answered but no one spoke. I went on putting my makeup. The phone rang again…I picked up…no one spoke. Five minutes later it rings again. This time I picked up the phone and it was a representative from the NHS at the Churchill Hospital saying that I have been short-listed and that I’d be having an Interview next week! This is in reply to my application for a job as an administrative clerk at the churchill hospital!
