help me out, will you? :) *edit
1/5 edit;
thanks for all the visits to my blog (I see a lot of hits came from this entry!), and to lovah for following me 🙂
i just wanted to let you know that i’m starting a series of crafty interviews, featuring a person a week or every-other week. you’d just answer some questions, give me a picture of yourself (and of your work, if you want to!) and a link to your blog (that can include OD!) so people can follow you once they get to know you! if you’re interested, let me know!
(there’s more details about it on a post on my blog – you can check it out here – http://scrapaholicstudio.blogspot.com/2010/01/its-here-and-announcement.html )
i’m back, sup.
ibuprofen & sudafed are doing their dang job today. i feel a lot better than i did this morning. that’s not to say i’m BETTER, i’m not, but i can at least carry luke from one room to the next without feeling like passing out.
i’m totally stalking my doodlecharms cartridge today. the tracking info says it was sorted in rochester (about an hour from here) last night and is "on it’s way to destination". but i’m not sure if that means, the post office (where it will be re-sorted and then delivered tomorrow?), or my house. i want iiiit!
okay so wanna hear something nerdly.
when i was waiting to receive my cricut for christmas i found all these lovely craft/scrap blogs to tide me over. i’ve since learned so many fun tidbits about products, and tricks the cricut can do, and techniques i never even thought of. as you know, i jumped on the scrap blog wagon about a month ago because…..it just felt like, the perfect fit for me. scrapbooking and writing on the internet……combined. hello.
at first i just wanted to have an organized space for my layouts & updates, and that IS still a big factor. but the more i got into following some of these blogs, the more i saw what they were capable of…..and i feel like i should totally get in on that action! i just, have a few minor problems.
1) i have no idea what i’m doing. in the sense that….i don’t know how to make my readership skyrocket, or get people to love it the way they love these other blogs. a lot of bloggers make videos and i’m not sure i’m capable of that. a) because i’m not as professional as they are and don’t think my projects are video-worthy and b) i haven’t the slightest clue on how to edit a video. i also can’t really afford to do giveaways right now, which seem to be a big attention getter. and i’m really not sure where to look/who to contact to get "the hook up" with any of this.
2) while this seems like the best fit for me….because i get to write/post about things i LOVE doing and learning about, i still have a bit of ADD about it. i see other people reviewing books, or baby stuff, or housewares, or recipes and i think…OMG, i could do all those, too! so i feel like i have to be really careful about where i put my efforts so i don’t get sidetracked.
my goal is to pick the RIGHT topic (and it can be somewhat general) so that i have a passion for it and ENJOY doing it. and to put enough REAL effort into it to become successful. the ultimate goal is to somehow find an income based on all of this, obviously, and i do realize that it’s probably going to take some time and trial and error to get there. but i just don’t want it to all go to waste, either.
i have a favorite bloggy "celebrity" and for embarrassment sake i’m not going to say who. she’s probably every scrapper’s fav….she seems to be, anyway. i have read every single one of her posts (dating back yeeears), gotten LOTS of projects ideas from her, even found new places to shop for supplies and other informative blogs. as i read through all of her posts i watched her success start to happen and i thought, she would know better than anyone. soooo i emailed her about it. yes, i did, totally lame right? even as i typed it out i thought, she probably doesn’t even have enough time to read this, let alone give me the advice i’m looking for! i really didn’t know what to expect. only…later that night she emailed me back. she was ultra friendly and nice about it, but what she had to offer didn’t really help much. she did answer one of my biggest questions – which was, do you pursue sponsors or do they pursue you? the answer….they pursue you. when they see that you have a good following and that people enjoy what you have to say about any given product, they send you lots of free samples to demonstrate, review, and giveaway. she said that she has tons of companies asking her to do this and she’s had to limit the amount of them because she can’t keep up with it all. and i mean, seriously…..even if she wasn’t getting paid to do any of this (and i think she is, at least by some of them) the free products alone would be worth it! i wouldn’t have to use my little allowance on those things anymore. that right there would lighten the load.
her advice was to post every project i do, and to issue some challenges….which i’m going to do as soon as i’m not completely ill. if you have any sliver of creative interest in you, would you be willing to complete any/all of my challenges to help me get it going? and, if you haven’t already, will you follow me? i hate to sound….needy…but i know OD is wonderful with things like this and one of my new years resolutions is to make this successful. i appreciate your help SO MUCH and you know i will owe you for this! if it works out, maybe i can get the hook up, someday! 🙂
