Frustration Is The Wet Nurse Of Violence

Oh how I’d like to stab the butthead at the Genius Bar. The silence switch on my iPhone fell off. This is the second time it’s happened, which is annoying unto itself but whatever. The first time it happened the solution was quite simple: made an appointment at the Apple Store and they gave me a new phone. Voila! It was hella easy and I was out of there in under 15 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that when I got home and plugged it in that I was able to restore the information from my old phone: contacts, text messages, voicemails, applications, ringers… everything! It was fantastic and really easy. So when the silence switch fell off again (on a brand new unit!) a few weeks later I wasn’t worried. I knew the replacement process was easy. As such, I procrastinated to the max and only just today (months after the second switch fell off) went in to get a replacement phone. I was at the Apple store on Friday and when I made the appointment they offered to take care of me on the spot, but I told them I still had to backup my phone.

Now here’s where the stabbing comes in. The first time I got a replacement phone I figured that all of my data was lost. I had done nothing special to back it up as I didn’t even realize that was an option, hence the pleasant surprise. This time, however, I double checked with Genius Bar (Apple’s techy folks): "I just sync it, right?" "Right," the man replied.

Let the stabbing commence.

For you see, that was wrong. Wrong wrong wrong dammit. DAMMIT! I needed to actually perform a full backup (which I only just now learned how to do) in order to have my info saved. Syncing just makes sure that the media and whatnot that’s in your iTunes is also on your iPhone. Backing up takes all your info from your phone (pictures, texts, etc) and saves them on your computer so that should you have to get a new phone (like me!) you can restore it to your previous phone’s awesomeness.

Obviously, I did not do this. No, all I did was sync it. *stab*stab*stab*

It’s not a huge deal. The last backup (I’m guessing this is scheduled because I sure as hell didn’t know how to do it intentionally) was on the fifth of this month so it’s not as though I’ve lost THAT much information. Just text messages and whatever pictures I took most recently. And I’ll have to reload the applications that I downloaded last night, which again is no big deal. It’s just… the principle of it.

Now that I’ve actually spelled out the situation I feel like a jackass for being so pissed off because it really isn’t a big deal. Oh well, I’m still mad. Logic be damned!

Ugh, that sucks. I backed up almost everything when I had to replaced my HD – but still lost a bunch. I feel like Im finally back up and running.
