Offended

So remember when I mentioned that Jacob was going to catechism classes at the Catholic church?  Well he had to do his first confession the other day. Why did the priest really stop in the middle of his confession and tell him that he couldn’t finish until he found out whether or not we were married by an ordained minister?

We were of course. My grandfather married us. Seems that that is still not good enough for the Catholic church though.  In order for Jacob to be able to complete everything, we have to have our marriage blessed by the Catholic church.  Am I wrong for being offended by this?

I take offense to the fact that being married by my grandfather who is a man of God is not good enough in the Catholic church’s eyes. I’m seriously just not happy about it right now. It wouldn’t make me so upset if they were only suggesting that we have our marriage blessed. But they aren’t doing that… the only way that Jacob can proceed with the classes is IF we get the marriage blessed.

He insists that he wants to be a Catholic though, so whatever. I’m gonna have to push my pride down and just do whatever it is that he thinks is so important.

I just find the whole situation ridiculous. I don’t think he really understand what I’m trying to say when I tell him that I think it’s wrong for them to not recognize our marriage.

I think I’m going to tell him…"Say we got married in a Catholic church, and then I decided that I wanted to take classes at a Lutheran church. How would you feel if the Lutheran church said that I couldn’t finish the classes for the simple fact that they wouldn’t accept our marriage as legit unless they blessed it."

I wonder if that will make a difference to how he views the situation. He’s so fucking hard headed though. It’s hard to get him to see the big picture when he insists on keeping blinders on. No other church but the Catholic church would ever not recognize a marriage performed by ordained minister.

He has another thing coming if we ever have kids and he thinks that they will be raised Catholic. There is no way I would ever raise my kids with Catholic church.
