Getting to Know Her…

Maya has been a part of our lives for about 15 days now. She is so much more than I could have asked for when I adoped a field raised kitten. She started out spending the first night in arms or in her carrier as we got the house set up for her a little.

As the days passed her personality began to appear. She purred every time we picked her up but she didn’t want to be held for long. She knows her name but wouldn’t come to it often. She showed typical female cat characteristics but still has us nervous about her gender. She loves to go out with her brother Charlie who lives two doors down but she is also very independent.

My family left on their annual vacation today so I’m home alone with Maya and the three dogs… Maya does not like dogs at all and my lab isn’t thrilled about cats but he and Molly spend most of their time in the kitchen or mostly the basement. And Clover is still living outside full time with the exception of the coming fireworks nights.

Anyway today I have been alone with the cat for a number of hours and I have come to some realizations. For one she loves to have the side of her head scratched. She craves human attention and goes where she shouldn’t just to get caught and cuddled for a moment. LOL Her favorite place in the house in the banned zone is the bathtub (not all bad…) She checks on me as often as I check on her which is just fine. She runs underfeet just to get the attention. Today for the first time really she jumped in my lap to get the side of her head scratched for a brief moment.
