I just don’t understand…
At the beginning of the school year my principal was all about how wonderful I was. How my lesson plans were so detailed and how my class was interactive and motivating and working. Now…my lesson plans need work (to quote: if I walked into your classroom I wouldn’t have any idea what would be going on.) Ummm okay….these are the same style lesson plans from the beginning of the year. The ones she LOVED.
I gave her a rough copy of my report cards for her to look over and this is the note I got on them: “Kathryn, These are possibly the worst report cards I have ever seen. You have spelling errors and you didn’t write about science or social studies.” Can we say harsh? There has to be a better way to say that to somebody who has only done report cards 1 time before this and really has NO idea what to write there in the first place. It’s not like she ever offered to help me.
My last comments were good. I followed up on the comments I made for first quarter and added a few things. Sure every time I used the word “consistently” I misspelled it. I probably misspelled it there too.
It doesn’t matter. I just don’t understand why she had to go and make me feel like an ass. Her comment was totally unprofessional and NOT encouraging. She even told me on one of the report cards to start off with a good thing and then hit the bad things. I think she needs to follow her own advice.
Sure most of my report cards didn’t have comments about science or social studies, but there is a reason for that. It’s called “space alotted for comments” and “other comments directly relate to “content” areas as well.”
GRRRRR….
I’m just so frustrated at the whole situation. I’m a first year teacher and I don’t want to rock the boat too much, but I think I was wronged and I think I should do something about it. I just don’t know what. Got any ideas?
im a third year teacher…our principal does not look at our report cards…thank goodness. We have a teacher who looks them over just to make sure we didnt leave anything out. I know you dont want to “rock the boat” just add more details, especially if you know shes going to be coming around. Dont let it get you down!

I’ve been taught that you’re suppose to “sandwich” comments. You do good bad good. That way, the person will be left with something positive in the end. Maybe you can ask one of the other teachers to show you how they do comments for their students.
