Daddy May I
So this is where I start to share more of what is going on now. I’m going to share this poem I just wrote (I haven’t written a single poem in probably 15 years. It felt good. I should do it more often) and then in the near future I’m going to write an entry about what’s behind the poem.
Daddy May I
Daddy may I,
Have a little bit of your time,
Daddy may I,
Tell you a little story of mine,
There once lived a shy little girl,
A girl who never felt safe,
No matter where she was in the world,
Or whatever obstacle or sunshine she faced,
This little girl spent her days dreaming,
That the hell she had to live,
There would be someone who give her a reason to stop the screaming,
That somehow she would get out alive,
Daddy may I,
Have a little bit of your time,
Daddy may I,
Tell you a little story of mine,
You would spend your days with your friends,
Did you not realize I’d know you were just next door,
Never did it once cross your mind to come make amends,
Your lack of interest in me as a child I still abhor,
Many years down the road,
You decided it was convenient to come back around,
Never realizing that you allowed the relationship to erode,
Ultimately blaming me that we weren’t on common ground,
Daddy may I,
Have a little bit of your time,
Daddy may I,
Tell you a little story of mine,
The one day you and your wife,
Gave me a new sister and brother to adore,
But like all times before in my life,
You found another reason to show all three of us the door,
Your life was only but your own,
A man who answered to no one other than you,
Children so easily you could disown,
The innocent you never took the time to value,
Daddy may I,
Have a little bit of your time,
Daddy may I,
Tell you a little story of mine,
As a I became a mother myself,
I felt the need to maybe tie up loose ends,
Life full of family would offer my girls a life full of inner wealth,
Little did I know, even their love you could not contend,
Grand entrance you made into their domain,
Full of promise of a future together,
How could they know the ending would feel so inhumane,
They never imagined that to heir emotions would you be their aggressor,
Daddy may I,
Have a little bit of your time,
Daddy may I,
Tell you a little story of mine,
As you rush yet again off to another land,
As reality sets in and their minds begin to whirl,
Remnants of their broken hearts in their hand,
Leaving behind these beautiful, innocent girls,
They will question what is that they could do,
Was there something in them that was wrong,
That has caused you to bid adieu,
Deep inside them they will feel lost and not at all strong,
Daddy may I,
Have a little bit of your time,
Daddy may I,
Tell you a little story of mine,
You will never understand,
You will never take the time,
To consider the pain being caused beforehand,
Even as you only hear from them sometime,
The pain I let into their hearts,
By hoping for a grandfather,
From the father who never understand the hurtful parts,
That caused my deep and eternal suffer,
Daddy may I,
Have a little bit of your time,
This is not something that I will just imply,
This is not something that I take in kind,
Daddy may I,
Tell that hurt you will cause no more,
Because the love for my girls no one can deny,
The lost love and affect will be yours to mourn.
