At last I’ve had an hour tending my garden. I’ve not been well enough for some time. I came back from our holiday, the third week in September having had a great time and feeling rejuvinated. Then I had a migraine for the next 5 days which left me feeing depressed. I think that was partly physical, the build up of the pain medications in the blood. The following Friday I was feeling better, which was great because it was the day the media group that our village had been working with came to the village hall to show us the film we had made, and have a little celebratory get together. Unfortunately I must have caught a cold from someone as by Sunday evening I had a really bad throat and only just managed to do my duty at the crisis line. The next day I was feverish and feeling quite bad which continued for 2 days but Thursday I felt better and we went to the accoustic club night and I managed to sing 2 songs. Perhaps I shouldn’t have because the next day I was ill again and that continued through to this week. I had 4 things on this week, 3 social events and my dental check! I didn’t dare miss the latter after the letter I got last time, but didn’t make any of the others.

Today I feel better. Not entirely, but about 60 per cent, and I’ve just managed to plant the rest of my crocuses. It’s a bright sunny day but there is a real autumn feel now. The colours are beautiful and I love the dappled quality of the light at this time of year. They are saying that the rest of October may be like this but then we are in for early snow again. I do hope not. Snow after Christmas I can enjoy. I just stay inside with my woodburner and get on with household tasks and my writing while looking out at the beauty of it all. Snow before Christmas is a pain as you have to struggle to town through it and then pick your way around icy pavements to do the Christmas shopping! Also if it starts in Novemebr it makes the winter so long.

The Michaelmass daisies are almost over. A couple of weeks ago they looked glorious next to the calendula. I grew these from a tiny plant I bought for £1.25 on a spring outing to Tintern Station.

and the geraniums have had their last great burst of blooms before the frost comes.

Soon the window boxes and hanging baskets will have to be replaced by ones full of winter pansies. So I still have plenty of work to do.

Your garden is very pretty. I hate snow all year round, except for Christmas day maybe. I wish that I lived in an area that didn’t get snow like Hawaii or California.

Lovely photos. Yes, I think that rose is a peace. I have 3 or 4 different yellow roses on that fence. And as many orange ones.

what lovely flowers. RYN: thanks for the support. My daughters (4 of them) are 26-36; the girl I spoke of is a foster child (she’s 14). Teenagers are so frustrating!
