Big storm and power cut

After the weeks of cold, dreary, damp weather this 2 day storm has a least provided a change and a little excitement. We went out in it on Thursday evening to the Acoustic Club and had to drive carefully as it was blowing the car around. When we got home, we had just pulled up to the top of our hill when I saw a huge white flash across the fields followed by a red one. Hubby thought it had something to do with the SAS training camp as it was in that direction, but I didn’t think so.

We went inside to find the house in semi darkness, lit only by the remainder of my Christmas candles which my son had found. He told us that the power had gone off literally a couple of minutes ago. Cat was getting very stressed as she can’t cope with changes in her routine.

‘I can’t do anything!’ she exclaimed. I was just about to put the dishwasher on. I can’t watch TV or go on the computer.’

‘We could tell ghost stories.’ I suggested.

‘Don’t be silly.’ she replied.

‘You could play your guitar.’   I often do that during power cuts. ‘It’s an electric guitar’ she protested. I gave up.

Eventually I rang the power line to see how long it would be off and they said a big cable had come down in the wind and we may not have power until 3.30am.

As I put the phone down I realised that the flashes we saw was the cable coming down.

I went to bed and read by torchlight for a while to wind down before going to sleep.

Eventually the power came on a 2am and daughter was happy again.

The storm is still raging 2 days later and they say we have more wild weather to come.
