Doctors and Tornadoes.
I didn’t realise it had been so long since I wrote an entry on OD. Life has been full of doctors’ visits for both husband and me. And bills for them of course. Pleased to say we now have a clean bill of health. Husband’s cholesterol has gone down and after having another stress test, the heart specialist was really pleased with his results. He will be on meds for ever I think, something he’s not fond of. But nothing he can do about that. It’s either take the pills or risk a stroke.
My specialist was pleased with my results too. He changed my meds but I can’t just go off the other ones, so have to continue taking 2 different lots until we get back from our holiday. I’ll have to take an extra case for the meds!
We had 2 tornadoes hit not far from us on the weekend. Not the sort of thing that happens here. It followed the river and we were really lucky as we live only a few streets from it.
It hit a town 30 mins drive west of us, completely destroying the caravan park and stripping the trees along the highway. It also hit a town 10 mins drive south east of us, doing a lot of damage. As far as I know there were no deaths, only injuries.
Photos here if anyone wants to see. I can’t remember how to make a shortcut for it.

We were just so lucky that it turned away from our town. We were actually outside looking at the lightning storm, as it was the worst we had ever seen or heard. Never knowing that towns either side of us were being hit so hard.
The thunder was tremendous and our dogs were scared. Next morning when I looked out the window to see if water was lying in the garden, there was Whisky, wandering home across the front garden! I have no idea how he got out, as he’s only quite a small stocky dog and the fence is about 5′ high. Maybe he spent the night on the front doormat. Who knows. Our other dog Sherry was so glad to see him and he ran straight into his kennel.
The only positive about the tornado is that if it had hit next weekend, the towns would have been full of holidaymakers. The vans in the caravan parks are mostly holiday homes and families would have been up here for the Easter break. Now they’ll be up sifting through what’s left.
We drove up there yesterday and it was heartbreaking to see the destruction.
Melissa messaged me to say her first exam result was 97% and she was so happy. She had another 2 last week but haven’t heard her results for them. She also has 2 presentations this week. I can’t imagine the shy, quiet Melissa of 17 doing presentations. She has certainly blossomed since leaving home. Independence suits her.
Luka meanwhile has been having a great time snowboarding in Austria and Switzerland, before he headed home to Poland to see his family. He then went to London to catch up with friends, then up to Glasgow to visit his sister, who’s at Uni there. I told him to make sure he doesn’t forget to pick us up in Warsaw on May 5th.
We also had a few days down in Melbourne with Melissa and Evan. It was nice catching up but as usual I forgot to take photos. Evan had his camera and took one of husband and I on the tram into the city. After that, we all forgot our cameras.
We were actually in Melbourne for my niece’s 40th party, but we only stayed a couple of hours, then left Evan and Melissa there to catch up with their cousins. They all had a great time reminiscing about my mum, their Nanna. They had plenty of memories of dressing up with her, going to movies, live theatre and staying over in the school holidays. I’m sure my mum was with them in spirit.
Apart from that, I’ve been finalising our trip. Still waiting on confirmation of a couple of bookings but hoping I get them tonight. Some places are really slow with their answers. You’d almost think they can’t be bothered with bookings.
OK I’m off to catch up on some diaries.
Bye……..
More and more health problems as we get older! Melissa did well in her exam.

You both look FABULOUS! Nice that you can all travel so much. You lead an exciting and full life. 🙂 Congrats on the good health reports! RYN: Thanks. Still experiencing pain but it gets better each day. I don’t hold out much hope on insurance, though. They don’t cover dental, but the office gals saw this more as surgery since they removed a couple of cysts.
