Had a great weekend.

I had a lovely time in Melbourne. I got there late Friday afternoon and came home Monday afternoon.
Betty and I visited my SIL Georgina, and shortly after we arrived there, my cousin Rosalind and my aunt Rena arrived. They haven’t discovered what’s causing my aunt’s health problem but she’s having more tests this week. She seemed fine apart from being very thin. It was great catching up with the family news, hearing what all my cousins and their children were doing.
Betty’s son has mental issues for which he takes meds. But he thinks he’s ok to stop taking them because he’s been quite well for a year or two. Apparently this happens regularly. This time he’s been off them for 2 years and is living on his house block out in the bush. She didn’t know he was a heavy marijuana smoker when he was young, so maybe that’s caused his schizophrenia. He was such a nice young man, and always wanted to get married and have kids, which never happened. That seemed to start his problems. Now he’s given up work, and she has no idea how he’s surviving. She said he seemed happy enough living where he is but he never answers his mobile or text messages, so Betty has to drive 3 hours to see him and hope he’s up there. Such a worry for her.
I didn’t get to see Evan as he was working days and taking guests from the hostel to a music festival on the beach. He seemed happy enough in his answers to my texts, so that made me feel happier. I would have like to see him though.
Sunday Betty and I met her sister at a shopping centre and had a lovely time chatting and looking in more shops. It’s nice to browse through shops that we don’t have up our way.
It was also nice to have them say “have you lost weight”?. I didn’t stay on the diet while I was there, and one of the days I had a milk shake at lunch. But it was full cream milk and I’ve used light milk for years, and it didn’t agree with me. I actually ate all the things I haven’t had since September, when we started the diet. Food like rice, pasta, bread, cereal and chocolate biscuits. But I’m back to normal eating now.
Monday I visited my husband’s sister, who is having problems in her life and needed to talk about it. I spent 3 hours with her and hope I was at least some help. She married for the 2nd time to a guy with 3 children. They seem a really dysfunctional lot, and the husband isn’t helping at all. The problem is his daughter wants to split them up and never talks to Margaret when she visits, just totally ignores her. But even though she has been told to stay away, she still is a disrupting force. She actually sounds as if she needs treatment of some kind. I think Margaret is on the verge of leaving the marriage. There’s more to it than the daughter. I don’t know how Margaret has put up with things the way they are. I would have left long ago.
I got a great welcome from the dogs when I got home. They must have thought I had gone forever!
Time for work.

Bye…..

You sound happy. 🙂 It is not uncommon for schizophrenics to go off their meds. They think they’re better and don’t need them and then you can’t reason with them when they go off again. Poor Betty. They say it tends to hit people in their 20s. RYN: I didn’t mind for the nieces and nephews, but now it’s GREAT-nieces and nephews and I’m kinda wondering if I’m really obligated to continue this with the next generation.

So many dysfunctional families! Smoking a lot of cannabis in the teens when the brain is still forming can cause schizophrenia.

I think you’re probably right about the schizophrenia – smoking cannabis definitely causes paranoia.

What a worry for the young man’s mother. YOu obviously have great skills at talking with people – sometimes it’s all we can do – be a sounding board. When folk have noone to talk to, that can be a huge boon. ANd you seem to have enjoyed your time away – glad to hear it.

RYN: the program I use to edit my photos – PaintShop Pro – lets me insert text so I do that bit before I upload to Photobucket! It’s a bit cumbersome but I’m used to it now – there’s probably an easier of doing it if I could be bothered to find out!

I am not a doomsayer .. well, OK< I can be one .. but I’m just saying, that just in case anyone wants to send me their contact details in a private note … not saying OD is gong to vanish, oh no, not saying that, but just in case … I’ll send them mine.
